joyeux noel!

Merry Christmas to all you celebrators out there! As has been the case the last few years, my day at home with my family has been quiet, lowkey and pleasant. Christmas is never as spectacular as when you're a little kid, but it's never as disappointing, either. I got lots of small gifts I was hoping for, some total surprises, and a gift of money in my stocking from my grandparents that was approximately five times the sum I was expecting.

I didn't participate in [livejournal.com profile] yuletide this year, but I have gotten a chance to at least begin the first look thrugh the archive, and I've already seen some total gems. I might do recs later, but as of right now, I'm pretty sure The WØRD (Colbert Report slash -- not RPS) is the story of the season.

I did participate in [livejournal.com profile] ds_seekritsanta, and I'll definitely do proper recs for that later. I'm not completely pleased with the story I wrote, so I'm not as upset as I would be that I'm not sure my recipient is, either. On the other hand, I got an AWESOME present. The number of Frannie/Ray Vecchio stories in the universe has been increased by one more, and it's wonderful. I love every piece of it, not only the incesty bits but the beautiful, beautiful backstory. I am a lucky girl! Safe as Houses, Thick as Thieves.

This is a holiday of board games at my house, apparently. Last night me, the parents and La Soeur played Apples to Apples for the first time together. At one point, when I was judge, the green card was "sultry" and I had to choose between the following red cards: Jack the Ripper; soy sauce; baked potatoes.

Of course, as any right thinking person would do, I picked soy sauce.

La Soeur and I have also tried her new game of Disney Scene It, and Triominoes and Risk might be up later tonight. Also on the schedule: lots of dvds and books. La Soeur got the Supernatural dvds, a present that results in much high squeaked excitement, and I witnessed "A Day in the Life of Jared and Jensen" and their commentary on "Phantom Traveller" for the first time. J-squared fandom: I understand now.

(Also, throwing knives? Seriously? Was someone, like, sitting around pondering and suddenly goes, "You know what? Jensen Ackles is JUST NOT HOT ENOUGH. Let's add THROWING KNIVES." My god, people! My heart can only take so much!)

We also have Stick It and NCIS season 2 to go through, of course. And I just finished The Other Boleyn Girl and am about to start on the huge pile of cheap romance novel paperbacks my mother picked up for me this weekend. SCORE.
