did you know gerard way went to art school?

I made [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 watch LotMS finally! She was ... mostly entertained by how much I love them, I think. But it's okay, I love her anyway.

Thoughts on this viewing:

i. OH GOD I DON'T REMEMBER EVER BEING THIS DEPRESSED BY IT BEFORE. It's something about the clear narrative arc they set up here, and knowing that the happy ending they have here gets so much fucking worse right after this finishes. The whole plot of "triumphing through adversity to Candyland!" falls apart when you know everything Paramour is still to come. :(

(I know they all get the happy ending ten times ridiculously happier when you get to the current day.)

ii. Seriously, Schechter was so goddamn hot. The movie still makes me want all the h/c Brian/Gerard in the world, except now I feel kind of bad about it, since he's not involved with them anymore. :/

iii. Also depressing: Bert. That was a bad break-up.

iv. You guys, I remembered why I used to actually like Frank Iero! Who knew!

v. Needs moar Ray/Frank early days. Much, much moar.

vi. Gerard you are SO PRETTY. HOW ARE YOU SO PRETTY.

vii. Mikeyway is my favorite forever and ever, amen.

viii. I think my favorite era to watch now is actually early!TBP blond!Gerard. It makes me sad there'll probably never be another backstage thing like this.

ix. Fuck you all, Ray Toro is fucking hot.

LOtMS was the perfect "story so far" DVD ever made for a band. I bought it two weeks before I saw MCR live, when I wasn't even that big of a fan, just to get myself pumped up for them. I still watch it regularly out of fondness for their hard-hitting, early-days grit and grind and the triumph of Three Cheers.

It hurts knowing what came after that, and it hurts seeing Schechter knowing that he's not with them anymore, but I always feel better firing up "the Black Parade is Dead" afterwards and seeing how far they've come.

And Frank might not be my favorite, but he wins for this quote:

"If there's a God, I thank Him everyday for bringing us Bob."

[livejournal.com profile] fox1013 really is the first person I've met who's sat all the way through it and not fallen in love, I think.
