schmerica: (sleater-kinney)

gah.

I just missed a class through sheer stupidity. Therefore, meme time.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy:

1. Post the names of 20 musicians.
2. See who can guess which is your favorite song by each.
3. Once someone guesses right, bold that row and include the song.

Only, I am lazy, so there are only 10 musicians listed.

Sleater-Kinney
Old 97's -- "Question", guessed by [livejournal.com profile] minervacat
Rilo Kiley
Magnetic Fields
Iron & Wine
Johnny Cash
Jill Sobule
New Pornographers
David Bowie
Weezer

(Also, on the topic of music, I love the song I have playing right now. It's all dirty! Mmmm.)

Jill Sobule - her cover of Survivor by Destiny's Child? Cause that's mine. Heh.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-03-31 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, that cover cracks me up everytime. Her one of I Will Survive is good, too. But no, my favorite is one of her studio ones.

Old 97's - Rollerskate Skinny?

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-03-31 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope -- from the same album, though. There's one specific song I've used to convert like five different people to Old 97's love.

[identity profile] minervacat.livejournal.com 2005-03-31 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
okay, from satellite rides. hmmmm. it's gotta be either "question" or "bird in a cage", then.

or, um. it would be if you were me. :P

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-03-31 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not you, but it is "Question." <3.

...actually, I think I'll go put that on now.

[identity profile] minervacat.livejournal.com 2005-03-31 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"bird in a cage" is the song that made me fall in love with the 97s. (i'm seeing them in may! my lust for rhett is already charging up in preparation for that show.)

but yeah, "question". good, good song. <3

Given your other musical tastes I'll bet your fave Johnny Cash tune is *not* Folsom Prison Blues...

Gotta be Hurt.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-03-31 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, no. I LOVE Folsom Prison Blues, but it's not quite my favorite. My favorite is another of his classic ones, though. I'm unpredictable like that.

Well I'm all for unpredictability!

Classic Cash... Either Ring of Fire or I Walk the Line. Though the back of my brain keeps telling me to guess Boy Named Sue.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-03-31 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently I am really unpredictable!

Johnny Cash is hard, though, because he has eighty bazillion classic songs, really.

[identity profile] spainja.livejournal.com 2005-03-31 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Jill Sobule--I kissed a girl?

David Bowie--um...Little Drummer Boy?

Johnny Cash--I Walk The Line?

[identity profile] spainja.livejournal.com 2005-03-31 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Um...I mean...Don't Take Your Guns to Town

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
My sister has a Johnny Cash tshirt with those lyrics on the back. /offtopic!

But, yeah, that's not quite my number one, either.

[identity profile] epj.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Sleater-Kinney - "Little Babies"
Johnny Cash - "Flesh and Blood"
David Bowie - "I'm Afraid of Americans"
Weezer - "Buddy Holly"

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. No on all of them. Seriously, this is pretty much an impossible meme, I think, unless you know someone incredibly well or they've only picked people with, like, one album.

Buddy Holly is probably my second or third Weezer song, though. My very favorite is on Pinkerton.

[identity profile] epj.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
I thought I *might* be right on the Johnny Cash, but the other guesses were just shots in the dark. I mean, what were the odds that the only Sleater-Kinney song I know was your favorite? :)

Rilo Kiley - "The Good That Won't Come Out"? It's the one you sent me.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
That was actually the first of them I heard, and I still love it -- I'd put it at my second favorite, I think.

[identity profile] cesperanza.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Bowie--I'm going to go with "Oh you pretty things" or "Life on mars"

Weezer: "My name is Jonah" or "In the Garage" or "Holiday"

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
I love "In the Garage", like, a lot. When I was like sixteen I was madly in love with it. It's not quite my favorite, though.

I'm not sure I'm even familiar with those two Bowie songs -- my knowledge of him is largely from listening to Ziggy Stardust eight gazillion times (though my favorite is not actually from that album).

Hee! Does it make it better or worse that I don't notice when I'm doing that?

And: new music! Yay, thank you! *runs to download*

Oh, you pretty things

Also: points for me if you change your mind about your favorite Bowie song. *g*
