alias 1x01 through 1x05

THOUGHTS on the first five episodes of Alias!

1) I don't understand the plots at all. Fox assures me this is totally fine. It's pretty! It moves fast! There are cool costumes! I like Sydney's hair!

2) The Sydney+Vaughn stuff is lame.

3) OMG NOBODY TOLD ME GINA TORRES IS A HOT FUCKING GIRL SPY WITH A CRAZY FOREIGN ACCENTS AND GUNS AND STUFF.

4) She accidentally set off a nuclear bomb in the second episode? Ahahahahahaha.

5) Cliffhangers are kind of boring when there's one in every episode, but I guess that goes back to the "whatever, plot!" point.

6) omg, JACK. "He finds me useful in ... difficult situations." = HOT. Beating people up = HOT. Being badass and hardcore = HOT.

Alias, at one point, made me look up whether it was possible to carry around to carry around the core to a nuclear suitcase bomb. I have never forgiven it.

Jack only continues to get hotter and hotter. (Although the part in the pilot where he responds to Danny coming to him forp ermission is still one of the all-time best Jack scenes ever and completely tells you everything you need to know about the character. I need to go rewatch that...)

Dude. That was pretty much one of the best character introductions EVER. I was seriously kind of in awe when that scene finished.

Yes! You corrected me on the potential damage done by carrying, um, some scary-sounding element in your bare hands, although sadly for my education I can no longer recall which element.

Jack is love. The world needs more Sydney/Ana. You will be much happier if you do not attempt to follow the plot. I really need to catch up on Alias now that it is out on DVD past the point at which I abandoned it.

I gave up on the plot in the pilot, so I think I'm ahead of the game!

I would recommend waiting until S5 is out and doing 4 and 5 in a row. I never find the show anything less than enjoyable, but even I admit S4 was not a showcase for its strongest...anything. S5, however, is almost uniformly awesome, and it's setting a benchmark for using outside pressures (high cast turnover, returning from an "off" season, impending cancellation, lead pregnancy) as a means to improve a show.
