3 things for a saturday afternoon

1) I think Lynne Stopkewich talking about how CKR said "Make me your meat puppet" is my favorite Callum Keith Rennie quote of all time.

2) I don't know what it is about "All the Queen's Horses", but I think it has magic powers. I'll be going about my normal life, and then that episode comes on, and suddenly, for the course of those 40 minutes, my mind is taken over by a flailing Fraser/Thatcher shipper. [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn showed it to me for the first time; I flailed wildly the entire time. "Why I am flailing? I CAN'T STOP. Omigod, why are they so ENDEARING? It is like a good slash fic! Only on TV! And with a GIRL!" [Also, the whole "Things grow ... feelings." bits? I choose to believe those are erection jokes. Hee.]

3) [livejournal.com profile] speshope and I are going out in about a half hour for dinner and STICK IT. Yays!

edited to add: what the hell, let's make it four things. Some of you on my flist are partly there because of your awesome linguistics connections, but some others of you I just found out about recently. Are there more people out there I am missing? Fandom and linguistics are the two most brain-eating obsessions I have; I'd certainly like to read more journals of people with similar dorkiness.

God, the meat puppet thing. I don't know what to do with it. Do I like it? I don't knoooow! It feels creepy, somehow, doesn't it? *wibbles*

And, uh, I do have a thing for linguistics, but, you know. I come from a different direction.

I think I find it so amusing just because that's how people like to talk about how wrong RPS is. Also, meat puppet is just FUNNY.

Fraser/Thatcher is awesome. I personally choose to believe that they decided to break up at the end of S2.

The Thing of AtQH, I have decided, is the "OMG FRASER IS KISSING SOMEBODY! MY BABY IS ALL GROWN UP AND MAKING A FOOL OF HIMSELF!"

I have a hard time even accepting that Thatcher is the same person is between s2 and 3/4, yo.

[waves the linguistics about]

Also, I totally hear you on the AtQH thing. A person has to work pretty hard to convince me that Fraser/Thatcher shipping is incorrect, within about a two-hour radius of that episode.

Yay, linguistics! You are one of the people I have known that about forever, of course, because you talk about your studies pretty often (which I totally enjoy reading about). Congratulations on your thesis, by the way!

Maybe I need a good linguistics icon. Hmm.

I majored in linguistics, but that was more than 10 years ago, and I don't remember much. :)

Where is this Stopkewich quote from?

Also, I just saw the Planet of the Cats episode of Twitch City for the first time, and it was AWESOME and I can't believe they made it. :)

It's from the "Tao of Callum Keith Rennie" article, by Cynthia Amsden.

"I forced Callum to cram himself into an extremely tight pair of jeans for this movie," Lynne Stopkewich laughs. "I've wanted to work with him ever since I saw him in Mina's Double Happiness. I wanted to be the director to really push him, to be the one who was going to give him something he could really sink his teeth into and do something phenomenal. And I have to say I think his performance in Suspicious River is the finest I've ever seen from him. I drove him crazy, but he was incredibly generous. He just said to me, 'Make me your meat puppet.'"

I don't spend a lot of time talking about it in my lj, but yeah, linguistics major here. What is up with that? I feel that there is a disproportionate number of people in fandom who are into linguistics.

Hee, I just saw you talking about it the other day in someone's journal -- it's why I added you.
