i am disjointed!

There are few things more frustrating than reading a perfectly good and well-written fic that leaves you absolutely cold.

(Although I suppose one of those few things is being the author of fic getting that response from others.)

*****

I want to spend tomorrow morning talking about porn on yahoo messenger and trying to write. I feel uncomfortable doing either of those things on my parents' computer, though, dammit.

*****

When I search through my Gmail archives for "fraser", it gives me this:

1 - 20 of thousands Older ›

This makes me giggle.

*****

In the last week or so, I have gotten into conversations with people on pairings ranging from Frannie/Maggie Mackenzie to Frannie/Welsh to Frannie/Ray Vecchio to Frannie/RayK/Welsh/RayV/Diefenbaker. You might think this says a lot about me, but I'm inclined to think it says a lot more about [livejournal.com profile] lalejandra, because all but one of the conversations was her doing entirely.

Rachel McAdams continues to get more adorable each and every single time I see her. I think I may need an icon.

Continuing with the "randomly making AUs out of everything I read and/or watch", the very best part of one taking place around the beginning of the 20th century would be RayK and his motorcar. <3<3. In an ideal world, he would also have highly amusing facial hair.

[identity profile] basingstoke.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'm now picturing RayK with a big Lincoln beard.

And lo, it is amusing.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
There should be, like, paper dolls. You could paste on all different types of mustaches and beards!

[identity profile] speshope.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
awww, handlebar mustache!Ray...

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Heeee.

I think I may need an icon.

Here are links to some I've seen lately:

Notebook (http://www.livejournal.com/community/friggincold/4965.html) icons

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, thanks for the links!

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHA

*wins*

also, i can think of two stories you might be talking about, and one of them is mine! the other is one that we both read last night, i bet. why is this not in your bitch filter?

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, you know a) I read things that are not dS and b) I read things that are more than a day old! I am unpredictable like that!

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Whatever! I don't know what you're talking about.

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
ALSO: I play the AU game all the time. (Like: Law & Order SVU: they are all cheerleaders! Like: Adventures in Babysitting: it's really harry potter! uh. etc.)

RayK and his motorcar.

There is a lot of old school porn involving motorcars. That could be a lot of fun.

[identity profile] serialkarma.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I have this whole AU in my head set circa turn-of-the-century Chicago with Fraser being a member of the Northwest Mounted Police who comes to Chicago on the trail of the killers of his father and meets Ray (K) who has defied his father and not gone to work in the slaughterhouses but is instead one of the Very First Detectives of the Chicago Police Department.

The point of this is that, sadly, he would not have been able to afford a motorcar back then.

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, dude, i totally remember you telling me that!!! you should really write this.

[identity profile] serialkarma.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I have been doing sporadic research for it on and off, but it's really hard to find good, detailed information on the early chicago police department. Or books early chicago. At least that I can afford to buy, at the moment (not counting The Jungle)

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
so I was totally going to reply to this and be like MAKE IT UP, but then I thought "She would never say that to me," and then I thought, "If she did, I would die," and then I thought, "And if she made it all up, she would be HER ANYWAY," and then I thought, "COFFEE".

<3

[identity profile] serialkarma.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"And if she made it all up, she would be HER ANYWAY," and then I thought, "COFFEE".

Um. Yes, because what?

Also, this is funny because I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] thepouncer last night about how we find ourselves doing massive amounts of research for one tiny little sentence of backstory and how we're like, "no one would know if we made this up why are we bothering?" and the answer is "well, *we'd* know" and also somone somewhere on LJ WOULD know, because LJ is sometimes the repository of all knowledge. You know?

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
haha, that should say "she WOULDN'T be her," which surely you guessed.

i still have not gotten coffee.

dude, in the story i posted yesterday, which is only half for your birthday, i called a fucking travel agent in canada to talk about plausible ways to get to fort good hope from chicago, so I TOTALLY KNOW.

also: for kovsky's birthday, people made her do some bizarre things and it was totally weird, and one of the things she had to do was write "orlando is the king of my heart" in SUMERIAN, and she posted the graphics of it, and someone actually posted to the entry it's in and CORRECTED HER SUMERIAN GRAMMAR.

so yes, lj is sometimes the repository of all knowledge!

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
*glomps you* You two hijacking my comments amuses me waaaay too much. Though I appreciate the complete lack of SGA fic!

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Rodney glared at Sheppard. "Get out of my lab," he said.

"No," said Sheppard. He leaned back in the chair he'd appropriated, and propped his feet up on Rodney's desk -- which, until that very moment had seemed like a normal desk, but with Sheppard's feet on it, it suddenly became an Ancient desk, complete with flashing lights and a siren.

"GET OUT OF MY OFFICE!" Rodney shrieked, which surely he would regret later, shrieking like a girl, but girls were great, and he could do worse than to emulate some of them.

"No." Sheppard smirked. "Your desk likes me."

"Everything likes you," said Rodney grumpily, giving up on the shrieking, since it didn't work.

"That's right," said Sheppard, and he smirked again.

heeeeeeeeeeee.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Heeeeeeeee. I always forget how quickly you turn on people!

I'm ignoring you to play the AU game some more. Ray and Fraser in silent movie era Hollywood!

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU KNOW YOU LOVE IT.

Ray and Fraser in Vietnam!

(Ooh, good one.)

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
ray and fraser as mary poppins and bert!

"practically perfect in every way" - fraser's MOTTO.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I was going to go with something like Dickensian street urchins or knights on the Crusade next, but omg. Nothing can compare to the utter rightness of Mary Poppins AU. Fraser with the umbrella! And the magic bag! And a spoonful of sugar! And singing! And Ray with the one man band! And the sidewalk drawing! And the chimney sweep dance! And the Cockney accent!

<3<3<3<3

IT'S THE LIEUTENANT! STEP IN TIME!

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Fraser would love the animated penguins. Oooh, and the part where Ray and the old guy are all floaty and can't stop giggling and Fraser is Not Amused? Heeeee.

[identity profile] serialkarma.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"GET OUT OF MY OFFICE!" Rodney shrieked, which surely he would regret later, shrieking like a girl, but girls were great, and he could do worse than to emulate some of them.

"No." Sheppard smirked. "Your desk likes me."

OMG, I love this SO MUCH.

We should totally go around leaving SGA comment fic in random dS people's journals.

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I am really tempted to do it in Nancy's journal ALL THE TIME. Every time she posts something, I want to post a comment with a snippet of SGA fic.

It's. Uh. Becuase I LOVE her. Hee.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Torture is the BEST sign of love! <3.

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i wouldn't waste my time torturing her if i didn't love her! like the other day when h. and i wrote sga genderswap! heeeeeeeeee.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Heeeeee. I think the best part of that one was when you both admitted you didn't like genderswap either.

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
you mean the part where we had to stop because we were grossing ourselves out? *g*

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! You had dedication to nancy even in the midst of your own grossed out ness! That's love.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, the things I end up doing massive amounts of research for always end up being the things that don't end up in the story at all.

I actually have to stop myself from being all vague and handwavey and "there is no man behind the curtain!!!" at any given moment, though, so I am in a different universe than you two. Heh.

[identity profile] serialkarma.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"sporadic research on and off"? clearly I need more coffee.

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
haha, clearly our minds are on the same track today!

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
The point of this is that, sadly, he would not have been able to afford a motorcar back then.

I thought this might be so, but I did not let it stop me from my amusements. With the little goggles? Sigh.

That story sounds rocking, though. I look at you longingly!

[identity profile] serialkarma.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
With the little goggles? Sigh.

dude, that's just funny. Seriously.

That story sounds rocking, though. I look at you longingly!

the story would totally rock if I could fnd the necessary information!

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
With the little goggles? Sigh.

dude, that's just funny. Seriously.

I'm SAYING.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a lot of old school porn involving motorcars. That could be a lot of fun.

Hee, really? Awesome.

I bet the motorcar could have been a present from his ridiculously rich wife before she left him to go, I dunno, join the suffragists or something.

[identity profile] lalejandra.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
that is TOTALLY something that Stella would do!!

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggles* And now I have the song from Mary Poppins in my head.

Although we adore men individiually, we agree that as a group they're rather stupid...

[identity profile] fox1013.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you should make Due South into a Mean Girls AU. Or Heathers! You just need a third Ray.

...What?

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2005-06-30 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Heeeeeeeeee. Fraser would make an AWESOME Cady.
