There are few things more frustrating than reading a perfectly good and well-written fic that leaves you absolutely cold.

(Although I suppose one of those few things is being the author of fic getting that response from others.)

*****

I want to spend tomorrow morning talking about porn on yahoo messenger and trying to write. I feel uncomfortable doing either of those things on my parents' computer, though, dammit.

*****

When I search through my Gmail archives for "fraser", it gives me this:

1 - 20 of thousands Older ›

This makes me giggle.

*****

In the last week or so, I have gotten into conversations with people on pairings ranging from Frannie/Maggie Mackenzie to Frannie/Welsh to Frannie/Ray Vecchio to Frannie/RayK/Welsh/RayV/Diefenbaker. You might think this says a lot about me, but I'm inclined to think it says a lot more about [livejournal.com profile] lalejandra, because all but one of the conversations was her doing entirely.

*****

Rachel McAdams continues to get more adorable each and every single time I see her. I think I may need an icon.

*****

Continuing with the "randomly making AUs out of everything I read and/or watch", the very best part of one taking place around the beginning of the 20th century would be RayK and his motorcar. <3<3. In an ideal world, he would also have highly amusing facial hair.

I'm now picturing RayK with a big Lincoln beard.

And lo, it is amusing.

ALSO: I play the AU game all the time. (Like: Law & Order SVU: they are all cheerleaders! Like: Adventures in Babysitting: it's really harry potter! uh. etc.)

RayK and his motorcar.

There is a lot of old school porn involving motorcars. That could be a lot of fun.

Dude, I have this whole AU in my head set circa turn-of-the-century Chicago with Fraser being a member of the Northwest Mounted Police who comes to Chicago on the trail of the killers of his father and meets Ray (K) who has defied his father and not gone to work in the slaughterhouses but is instead one of the Very First Detectives of the Chicago Police Department.

The point of this is that, sadly, he would not have been able to afford a motorcar back then.

I have been doing sporadic research for it on and off, but it's really hard to find good, detailed information on the early chicago police department. Or books early chicago. At least that I can afford to buy, at the moment (not counting The Jungle)

so I was totally going to reply to this and be like MAKE IT UP, but then I thought "She would never say that to me," and then I thought, "If she did, I would die," and then I thought, "And if she made it all up, she would be HER ANYWAY," and then I thought, "COFFEE".

"And if she made it all up, she would be HER ANYWAY," and then I thought, "COFFEE".

Um. Yes, because what?

Also, this is funny because I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] thepouncer last night about how we find ourselves doing massive amounts of research for one tiny little sentence of backstory and how we're like, "no one would know if we made this up why are we bothering?" and the answer is "well, *we'd* know" and also somone somewhere on LJ WOULD know, because LJ is sometimes the repository of all knowledge. You know?

haha, that should say "she WOULDN'T be her," which surely you guessed.

i still have not gotten coffee.

dude, in the story i posted yesterday, which is only half for your birthday, i called a fucking travel agent in canada to talk about plausible ways to get to fort good hope from chicago, so I TOTALLY KNOW.

also: for kovsky's birthday, people made her do some bizarre things and it was totally weird, and one of the things she had to do was write "orlando is the king of my heart" in SUMERIAN, and she posted the graphics of it, and someone actually posted to the entry it's in and CORRECTED HER SUMERIAN GRAMMAR.

so yes, lj is sometimes the repository of all knowledge!

Rodney glared at Sheppard. "Get out of my lab," he said.

"No," said Sheppard. He leaned back in the chair he'd appropriated, and propped his feet up on Rodney's desk -- which, until that very moment had seemed like a normal desk, but with Sheppard's feet on it, it suddenly became an Ancient desk, complete with flashing lights and a siren.

"GET OUT OF MY OFFICE!" Rodney shrieked, which surely he would regret later, shrieking like a girl, but girls were great, and he could do worse than to emulate some of them.

"No." Sheppard smirked. "Your desk likes me."

"Everything likes you," said Rodney grumpily, giving up on the shrieking, since it didn't work.

"That's right," said Sheppard, and he smirked again.

You know, the things I end up doing massive amounts of research for always end up being the things that don't end up in the story at all.

I actually have to stop myself from being all vague and handwavey and "there is no man behind the curtain!!!" at any given moment, though, so I am in a different universe than you two. Heh.
