you are not the vecchio whose babies i am having!

[livejournal.com profile] pearl_o: so the entire due south fandom besides me seems to find Ray Vecchio way more interesting after he's gone away and had to be undercover as a mobster for two years.
And I am like "...You are boring now. BLAH secret pain and hardship and changing personalities.
I liked you when you were a nice guy."

Or it just may be that it's just plain icky!

*giggles* See, though, I can't use that as an excuse, because there are tons of pairings I love that are objectively pretty icky, you know?

Yeah -- me too, but some ickiness should never be seen... and this in one of them.

I find him interesting before Vegas! I just, um, lack his sense of humor, so I refrain from sullying his entertainingness.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggles* I suppose that is fair. I have not written nearly enough Vecchio myself, yet. This is possibly something I must try to remedy!

[identity profile] mondschein1.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
YES YOU DO.

If you do not I will be SAD and cry in a corner like a small pathetic puppy-type thing.

[identity profile] bluebrocade.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm with you! I don't want to read about RayV AT ALL except for his reaction to F/K. And I definitely don't want to read R/R. *ducks as rest of fandom throws stones*

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I love Ray Vecchio! I wish there were more Ray Vecchio stories, actually -- especially the het and gen kind. I poke people all the time for more Vecchio backstory, because he fascinates me -- the Irene Zuko stuff, him growing up in the house with the abusive dad and protecting his sisters, all of it. Just the post-CotW "getting over Armando" thing isn't where my interest lies, and a lot of people that seems to be when he *becomes* interesting.

Re: hey now!

[identity profile] bluebrocade.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm...guess I'll have to defriend you. *g*

I stand alone in my total non-interest of RayV. Ack! Maybe I should rewatch S1 & S2.

hey now!

[identity profile] kormantic.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Ray Vecchio, full stop. I want his babies before or after he leaves! I do like season two Ray, where he's less jokey sidekick and more his own man... But that's more the good haircut and sharp suits. Ray Vecchio = Love!

Re: hey now!

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The Ray Vecchio on the show, I would have the babies of any time, man, just give me a date and place, you know? It's just that the "getting over the trauma of Vegas and being Armando" is a story that really doesn't interest me, somoehow. I don't want all his edges sharpened and made hard! I love him the way he is!

[identity profile] karabou.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
What the hell? I have no idea what you're talking about, but then, I am fairly new to the fandom.

I love RayV to death, and I would never actually want to read about him if he wasn't a 'nice guy.' Because if undercover life made him mean, I just...no, that would be hard to read. He wasn't like that in CotW, so. Um.

RayV is always nice. :) And he loves Fraser, not RayK.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* Well, the thing is, when you're writing Ray Vecchio after "Call of the Wild", you sort of do have to deal with the fact that he's been in this really stressful place, being a horrible person and probably having to do horrible things for the past however long. And it's a perfectly fair thing to explore and figure out, and I can see how other people find it fascinating, but it is very much Not My Thing.

[identity profile] karabou.livejournal.com 2006-01-26 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I think I misunderstood what you meant... you don't want to read post-CotW with baggage!RayV? which is actually fic I have never seen, but then, I have seen very little RayV-centric fic.

[identity profile] grey853.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not a Ray V fan, never have been. I've always seen him as a kind of icky slick fella, who just cleaned up his act a little bit because he was standing next to a Mountie, well, before he shot him in the back and then left town.

As for Ray/Ray, I don't touch it. For me it's all about Fraser/RayK, the right Ray, thank you kindly.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2006-01-25 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, I adore Ray Vecchio. I would have his babies anytime, the way he is on the show; it's just the post-CotW fanon that doesn't grab me.

Actually, for that matter, I can get into RayV/Fraser when it's done well. It's just the Ray/Ray that doesn't grab me.

[identity profile] grey853.livejournal.com 2006-01-26 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I can't get into RayV/Fraser at all, mainly because I see RayV as hopelessly straight and not a very nice person. Or to be fair, not the kind of person I like very much. JMO. For me to like a pairing, I have to like both people involved, and I'm not just talking about looks, either. So in DS, it's all about Fraser/RayK for me.

[identity profile] pipsqueaky.livejournal.com 2006-01-26 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
VECCHIO!!! *hearts*

I will so fight you for the chance to have his babies.

And yes, the pre-Vegas Ray is the best, IMO. It's not that I find post-Vegas!RayV boring, like you do (although I do sympathize with you there), it's just ... that's not the Ray I fell in love with on the show, and it's not really the Ray I want to read about. You said "I don't want all his edges sharpened and made hard! I love him the way he is!" And - yes. That's it.

There should be more pre-Vegas-era RayV fic. Yes indeed.

Oh, and *waves* hi. :) I lurk here a lot, cause you're funny and smart and write excellent fic and I enjoy your dS ramblings quite a bit.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2006-01-26 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
There are enough babies for EVERYONE, dude.

pre-Vegas-era RayV is so lacking in this world. I want more about wee teenage Ray, yo. Protecting his sisters! His horrible father! His tragic immature romance! *loves like whoa*

Also, hi! Heh. I mostly ramble on to hear myself talk, so I am glad you get enjoyment from it!

[identity profile] joandarck.livejournal.com 2006-01-26 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I am totally with you here. I love Ray Vecchio, and Post-Vegas Ray was a disappointment, to me. Where is the love? Where is the goof? You get a little in COTW, but it's like he's trying to remember how. I tried writing post-Vegas Ray the same way you'd wiggle a loose tooth, but I had way more fun writing a Season One story. Hm... tempted to try to get you to read it. That's tacky, isn't it. Okay pretend I didn't say that. What I did say was "Ray/Ray, NO." I'm glad [livejournal.com profile] mrsronweasley and I aren't the only ones.

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2006-01-26 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
*giggles* Dude, my Ray/Ray antipathy is like a running joke around here. I think [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl uses me as a measuring stick. "Oh, that's a valid choice. I guess. You're one of the ones like Pearl-o."

[identity profile] joandarck.livejournal.com 2006-01-26 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hahah. "Pearl-o: scours away Ray/Ray."

Dude, I'm trying to write pre-BDtH Fraser/Vecchio and it's really hard and quite possibly impossible! (Rift pairing, omg!) But I'm trying! *blinks big plaintive eyes*

*looves post-Vegas!fucked-up!Vecchio; adores Ray/Ray; is bored by Vecchio het (except for that one by Hth from 1994's dsss); will NEVER EVEN THINK ABOUT having Vecchio's babies ewww; but still willing to give Fraser/Vecchio a shot, in the interests of fair play* :-)

[identity profile] pearl-o.livejournal.com 2006-01-27 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
*sigh* China Shop, why must you be so wrong headed about these things!

Whatever, I guess I like you anyway. *g*
