The mountie shook his head slowly. "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I can't help you. I can't do those things - not anymore."
Charles could hear the unspoken end of the sentence - Not since... - and then there was a flood of images to follow: a dark-haired woman kisses snow a gun a train a friend and then, finally, a knotted haze of shame/guilt/anger all mixed together, and the too-familiar sensation of lying in a hospital bed with a bullet in one's back.
His reaction, whatever it was, was strong enough for Erik to notice, but Charles pushed away Erik's soft mental concern and said to the man, "You're wrong. You still have it, everything you had before."
:DDDDDDD I am so glad you like it!!! Oh, Fraser. I love him so much, so it was really fun to think about this scenario. Post-Victoria's Secret came right to mind as a time period when I could see it happening, and thinking about the things they had in common built right on from that.
I kind of want this story now, too. Maybe some day!

The danger of this meme is that now I really, really want that story! :)
