I know the Klingons are just trying to goad the Enterprise crew into a fight, but ... that's actually a pretty awesome description of him.

One extra enjoyable thing about watching old school Trek: the more episodes I watch, the more Shatner occasionally turns into a parody of himself. Seriously, how is this show so amazing? And how did I go till now without paying attention? ♥

I love Kirk's reaction when Scotty is explaining the fight, later.

I once read a review of that episode which said that it proved Shatner's true calling was light comedy. I can't say that reviewer was wrong -- his commitment and timing and just-slightly-exaggerated facial expressions in this episode, and the way he plays off of the other actors? Damn. It's so freakin' good.

I totally agree that Shatner is right-on in every way in that episode. It's interesting: his acting makes me laugh both when he does comedy and when he's being ... let's say dramatic.

I know! He's so.....I don't know, something, when he's doing drama.

One of my favorite of his roles is in Miss Congeniality, because of the bit at the end where his character is doggedly, baffledly, trying to sing the pageant song while things explode and contestants sob and wrestle and everything generally goes to hell. I about died laughing when the character is gesturing with one hand, holding the mike with the other, his bright perky pageant face frozen on while his eyes are conveying nothing but "terrified confusion". BRILLIANT.
