schmericaI should be asleep because I have to get up early in the morning to catch the bus, but instead I am watching the last Star Trek TOS episodes I hadn't gotten to at all yet. The thing is, I was watching out of order, just random catching my eyes, and only a couple are left, and ... a lot of them are not very good. I don't have any comments on "Who Mourns For Adonais?" The only thing I have to say about "The Changeling" is that I am kind of shocked/pissed at what they did to Uhura. "The Apple" is kind of boring, but there is bizarre spy music in the background AND it does have a very nice Spock/Kirk moment, as follows:
There are these plants that shoot thorns and kill people and one is aiming at Kirk and Spock sees it and he yells JIM!!!! and SHOVES Kirk and McCoy out of the way so HE gets hit with them instead! And then he is passed out and they don't know if he's going to make it and everyone is worried about him! But then he wakes up, and he and Kirk have this conversation
KIRK: Spock. Are you all right?
SPOCK: Doctor McCoy's potion is acting like all his potions, turning my stomach. Other than that, I am quite well.
MCCOY: If your blood were red instead of green, you wouldn't have an upset stomach.
KIRK: Just what do you think you were trying to do?
SPOCK: I surmised you were unaware of that plant, so I-
KIRK: Stepped in front and took the thorns yourself.
SPOCK: I assure you, Captain, I had no intention of doing that. It was merely my own clumsiness prevented me which prevented me from moving out of the way.
KIRK: I see. Well next time, just yell. I can step out of the way as quickly as the next man.
SPOCK: I shall do so.
KIRK: Trying to get yourself killed. Do you know how much Starfleet has invested in you?
SPOCK: One hundred twenty two thousand two hundred--
KIRK: Never mind. But thanks.
AHHHHHHHH. SPOCK YOU ARE SO BITCHY AND YOU ARE NOT FOOLING ANYBODY. KIRK IS ALL STERN COMMANDERY AND :( BUT THEY ARE STILL IN LOVE. And, like, the thanks at the end is just a little aside but it's so sincere. AHHHHHHHHH.
Also there is a part later where Spock walks into a forcefield surrounding a giant lizard head and he goes flying and it's pretty hilarious. His little face afterward! It is another one of those places where you can totally see why Quinto was a good casting choice, because oh bitch face.
Also they have a conversation where Spock is like "You know you're violating the prime directive, right?" and Kirk is like "yeah, but it's me!" and Spock is like "seriously, prime directive?" and Kirk is like "whatever."
And then Spock gets second degree burns. Seriously, it is pick on Spock day. Awesome. And the Kirk and Scotty interactions ("You're fired") was nice.
