Summary:
This was an awesome assignment, I can't lie. Hadestown is an absolutely magnificent album - I think I've talked about it and recced it in my journal before, but it's this fabulous folk opera retelling of the Orpheus/Eurydice myth, in a kind of Americana dystopia pseudo-depression setting. It was my favorite album of 2010, no joke.
So this assignment gave me a chance to play around with that setting and indulge ALL OF MY FEELINGS about Persephone, which, yes, is one of my favorite myths ever. I think the story can be read and understood pretty easily even if you're not familiar with the album, just as a retelling of the mythology, so don't let that stop you (although, seriously, get the album, you'll thank me later).
It only occurred to me after the deadline had passed that second person was kind of a risky choice for an exchange ficathon, considering how many people have very strong opinions about said POV, but I honestly think it was the best choice for the story. So there you go. Luckily my recipient seemed to like it!
