pairing meme
30/4/03 18:381. What are your favorite canon pairings (where canon is defined as having a romantic relationship taken beyond innuendo and UST in the present or past that has been verified by events seen in the show excluding dreams, alternate universes and other events-negating plot devices)?
Wash/Zoe (Firefly), Willow/Oz (Buffy), Torrance/Cliff (Bring It On), Natalie/Jeremy (Sports Night), Lisa/Dave (Newsradio), Taran/Eilonwy (Chronicles of Prydain), Sam Vimes/Lady Sybil (Discworld), Xander/Cordy (Buffy), Henry/Eleanor (Lion in Winter).
Note the large percentages of books and shows from my youth.
2. Favorite non-canon pairings?
Clark/Lex (Smallville), Colin/Ephram (Everwood), Simon/River (FF), Torrance/Missy (BiO), Dan/Casey (SN), Josie/Val (Josie & the Pussycats), Chloe/Pete (SV).
To a lesser extant, Chloe/Lana (SV), Xavier/Magneto (X-men movie), Giles/Ethan (BtVS).
3. Favorite obscure pairings?
Is there supposed to be overlap from the first two? A couple from both are pretty obscure -- from the canon list, especially, I haven't seen fic for quite a few. Of course, I don't necessary want fic from my canon pairings the way I do for my noncanon ones.
Also, I wish Beau/Innes (from Miss Pym Disposes) existed. Or Leo/Max from the Producers. Or really creepy Eve/Margo or Eve/Addison from All About Eve.
4. Pairing you won't read no matter how well written?
I'm actually one of those people who'll read the stuff that icks them anyway, and then just complain about it. The only one I can think of that I actively avoid is Chloe/Clark. Although Jonathan/Lionel's not my thing, as well.
5. Pairing you used to dislike, but grew to like or vice-versa?
I used to enjoy Chloe/Lex (SV) somewhat, but less so lately. I used to be a lot more interested in ... well, just about any pairing in Buffy. And I have slowly come to first accept, and then muchly enjoy Mal in romantic pairings, which didn't work for me at all at one point.
6. Does it matter to you if your pairings ever get recognition by TPTB?
Meh.
6b. If they already have it, does that make the pairing seem more legitimate somehow?
Heh. Do I mind having bastard pairings?
