schmerica: (sesame street)
It is Thanksgiving. In my house it is the quiet calm bit before the craziness; my mother and grandmother are out buying a tablecloth. Soon they will be home, and at ten they'll wake up my sister and the two of us will be put to work. My grandfather and dad should get home from checking their traps in a few hours, and my brother, his girlfriend, and his girlfriend's kid are coming at one. We'll eat early (turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, broccoli with cheese sauce, biscuits, obscene amounts of pie) and then everyone will seperate and take naps or read or sit around doing our own things. At some point we will come together again for the ritual watching of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. (I'm not sure what exactly prompted that as the annual Thankgiving movie with my parents, lo these many years ago. But you can't argue with tradition.)

I hope to get more writing done today, and more of my reviewing-of-yuletide-canon. I'm taking notes and everything! It's very exciting. Hmm, maybe I'll even start thinking of my dS seekrit santa. All these deadlines are starting to approach.

Images in my head:

+ The much-beloved porn from [livejournal.com profile] _aerye_'s comments
+ Fraser and Ray teaching their daughter how to shoot, in my kidfic universe
+ [livejournal.com profile] estrella30 and I were looking at this screencap yesterday and, between our drooling (the *mouth*, the *eyes*, the *stubble*), imagining Fraser and Ray to be tied up and bound together, uncomfortably on their sides, facing each other. Fraser is not the sort to be distracted from the task at hand; he'd be busy getting them out of their confines. Any hanky-panky would have to come much later, once they're out and the day has been saved.
+ Post-CotW, where they're up in Canada, and Ray is just watching Fraser, all scruffy and hard-working and flushed with happiness; Ray's never seen Fraser quite like that before.
+ While I think Fraser as a father would have some ... issues, I do think he would be an extraordinarily good uncle, godfather, that sort of thing. "Bounty Hunter" is a relatively bad example, but the way he interacts with children and teenagers in the first few seasons make me kind of full of love. Actually, the way he interacts with Bruce in "I Coulda Been a Defendent" is somewhat similar.
+ It might have been the cliche list, but RayK/GermanPaulGross is in my head again. Heh, pumpkin.

Happy Thanksgiving for all of you who are celebrating today. If I am to count the things I am thnkaful for, I can't imagine not including fandom and the people in it.

[livejournal.com profile] heuradys wanted "Fraser, wistful melancholy." 340 words of post-"Good for the Soul" gen.

(H, my first few ideas for your prompt involved babies. I think it was the screencaps' fault. But I manfully resisted! Because, you. Yes.)

One thing I never seem to get tired of: sleep.

That was not meant to be a pun. Nor do I mean actual, physical sleep -- though God knows I can't get enough of that, either. No, I'm thinking of stories. There's something about sleep I find endlessly fascinating.

Like, dude, the most cursory glance at my stories, I get Ray waking up next to Fraser. Fraser waking up next to Ray. Fraser falling asleep in an empty hotel room. Fraser flashing back to Ray's wake-up routine. Fraser falling asleep listening to Ray and Dief. Ray falling asleep after post-apocalyptic comfort sex. Fraser and the vague discomfort of Ray's bed. Bedtime stories. The unspoken importance of beds. Not to mention all the various related stuff in my lj memories and flashfiction. And god knows in Firefly, I haven't written anything River-centric that isn't intimately connected with sleep and nightmares and crawling into people's beds.

So, yes. That's actually kind of scary to look at -- got a theme much? -- but the fact that I abuse it doesn't make it any less interesting to read from other people. Falling asleep the first time together; waking up for the first time next to a person; waking up with the other person gone, or bustling around the room or apartment or house; doing either when they've done it with each other eight million times; waking up in the middle of the night for sex, or to talk, or to leave; any other variations of these themes.

I'm not sure, but I think it might possible be really damn sad that SLEEP is apparently one of my major kinks. *facepalm*

Um. I think I'll go to bed now.
