The first half of The Lady Eve makes such a perfect due South Fraser/Kowalski AU in my head that I am practically cackling with glee. Fraser as Henry Fonda! Ray as Barbara Stanwyck! Hell, Dief can be the snake while we're at it -- why not, after all?
I'm not sure the second half works so well, but I'm about to rewatch it anyway, so we'll see. (Edited to add: The main problem with the second isn't even that it comes off as vaguely mean-spirited -- I think they manage that pretty well in the movie -- but that the climax really depends so heavily really uncomfortable sexual politics. 1940s, bah.)
