mmm, lying to fraser!
30/7/06 12:02So today I was thinking about "One Good Man". Because, strangely enough, one of the things I really like about that episode is the tiny Vecchio subplot about the Riv and his ex-wife. Because I think, really, one of the things I really like about it is that it's something he doesn't tell Fraser.
Because that's one of the things about Vecchio, you know? Fraser is coded the isolated/exile/private one in some ways, and Vecchio's in contrast to that -- he's community, family, home, defined in all these ways by his various social relationships.
And then with Fraser, specifically, Vecchio really is open; he talks about everything. Girls and dates and love, family and his childhood and his crappy father, anything.
Which means, I guess, that the stuff Vecchio does choose to keep to himself, make his own private thing, then feels special, important, somehow. Which is one of the reasons why that last scene, with Vecchio's flasback, in "One Good Man" is so sweet and works so well.
IN OTHER NEWS, I really really want to write today. I don't know if anything's going to come of that -- writing is hard, yo -- but it's a nice change of pace. *ponders Vecchio gen and HCL and other stuff that isn't my ficathon assignments*
