Paper finished, *plus* time for two icon ficlets. Woo!

Also, you should all check out the poll and comments in my last entry, because I apparently have many, many brilliant people filling it out. Yay.

Sekrit note to [livejournal.com profile] harriet_spy: I only abandoned *one* of our fandoms in common! What about Xmen/X2, hmm?

Ray's not sure how long he's been studying, but he's pretty sure it feels like a lot longer than it is. Not like it makes a difference either way, because all his notes still look like Greek, or Chinese. One of those weird alphabets where everything means something else, stuff he wouldn't even be expected to know, because it's not like Ray ever took Greek or Chinese.

Except that's English and that's Ray's handwriting and he must have been there for all of those classes, so all of this should really mean something to him. But it's been -- he looks up from his books to check the clock -- two hours now, and Ray doesn't think he's any closer to acing his finals than he was before he started this whole study session thing.

Screw it. Just screw it.

He tears his glasses off and throws them on the table, rubbing at his eyes with the back of his hands before he glares down at them. There's other stuff he could be doing, he thinks. Not Stella -- Stella's busy in her dorm, studying for real, not that she needs it, not her -- but stuff. Stuff that's better than this, anyway.

Ray stands up and grabs his jacket off the back of his chair. Maybe he'll go down to the gym. At least punching stuff doesn't make you feel like such a loser.

Frannie is a big believer in rituals. Rituals, and positive thinking. And prayer, of course, but that's sort of a 'duh' thing, really. You don't get a choice about that.

But rituals and positive thinking, they're important, Frannie knows it. It makes a difference. She's even read about it, in a magazine article once -- you just have to figure it out, exactly what you want, and then *believe* it.

So every night before Frannie goes to bed she thinks about tomorrow.

Tomorrow, Frannie is going to go to work, and she is going to be *valuable* and *respected* and *appreciated*.

Tomorrow, her brother -- her real brother -- is going to spend another day being safe and come a little bit closer to maybe coming home.

Tomorrow, Benton Fraser is going to figure some stuff out, and Frannie is going to be right there when he does.

Tomorrow is going to be a good day, Frannie's sure of it. Or if not tomorrow, the next day. Frannie's positive.

These are wonderful. I love Frannie's earnest hope, which gives her character so much more depth than the show often does. I also love Ray's impatience and rambling thought-patterns.

He also loves...he loves San Dimas.

Couldn't resist.

Thank you for the Geek icon drabble!!

College!Ray makes me want to pet him. The academic life is just not for him. :(

And Frannie needs a big hug, too.
