Okay, so, as seen in the livejournals of [livejournal.com profile] mosca and [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy:

You know how bands and artists pick their best songs for a "Best Of..." CD, well, that's how this works. Choose ten of your best fanfics (or fanart or original works or photographs). List them and explain why they're your best.

I can never tell whether talking about writing is interesting (how I tend to view reading other people's) or wanky (my own). But, either way.

One of the problems I'm having with this, I think, is the fact that half of my stories are probably in Smallville fandom, and I pretty much hate them all right now.

Well, that's not quite right. I don't hate them. I'm sure they're decent and even really good in some cases. But man, I can't make myself reread them at this point. (For that matter, I can't make myself reread any of my favorite Smallville writers' stories right now. I don't know quite when that change happened.)

My point is, Smallville is way underrepresented in my favorites, and Firefly and due South and tiny non-me fandoms are overrepresented. But I'm okay with that.

Watch It Fade, Smallville, Clark/Lex. An exception to everything I just said above, but you know what? I still like this one anyway. If one of the main flaws I have with my writing is its smallness, the tininess of it -- well, at least I make up for it by having those 500 words work. (Sekrit note to [livejournal.com profile] estrella30: this is the story I was telling you about, whose working title was "Lex's Mommy is Dead.")

Routine, Bring It On, Torrance/Missy, Torrance/Cliff. Witness baby!newbie!pearl-o's explorations with het, incestuous triangles, and genderfuck. This is still the post movie future in my head.

Nutrition and Other Needs, Sports Night, Dan/Casey-ish. I love everyone and everything in Sports Night so much it hurts. This is the only Sports Night story I had in me, but I'm glad if I only had one, it was a good one. I love Danny, I love Casey, I love Jeremy and Natalie and Dana. Plus, this one is good to look at to remind myself dialogue is my friend.

Sandwich as Aphrodisiac, Everwood, Bright/Ephram. This is my fucking baby, yo; there is no other story I'm prouder of than this one. I wrote like, three stories in Everwood, I stopped watching it not longer afterward, I wasn't even in the fandom in any meaningful way, but I still love this story. I think it's funny, I think it's sweet, I think the voices are on, and I think it explores the dynamics between the characters in a meaningful way. (Also, I don't think I turned Amy into a superbitch, goddammit.)

Academies, Firefly, gen. Most everything intelligent I have to say about this story I did in the commentary meme, I think. But there's no character on Firefly I find more fascinating than River Tam, and this was my attempt to explore her the best I could, through all the different glimpses we get of their universe, all the endless possibilities within the crazy girl.

Milk and Ash, Firefly, Zoe/Inara. Another very very short one, and one that I'm pretty sure doesn't work for a lot of people. When I signed up for the [livejournal.com profile] femslash04 ficathon, one of the requests I had was "Firefly femslash", with nothing more specific. This wasn't the story I wrote for that, but this pairing came into my head then. Basically, this was me trying to see if I could pull it off, this completely crackheaded pairing, to see if I could make it work. I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Plate Tectonics, due South, Fraser/Kowalski. I'm a sucker for second times and morning afters, really. And conversations with Dief, and the dialogue here, and lying on the kitchen floor. This feels grounded to me in a way a lot of my stuff doesn't, and the style here is something I wish I could hit more often.

The Outline of a Circle, due South, Fraser/Kowalski. My first post-CotW story, my first exclusive Fraser POV, my first dS story really dealing with all those *other* characters. Really, the first of many of my due South stories that can be read as one long expression of my love for Fraser.

Flesh and Blood, Firefly, River/Mal. Menstruation and non-con and crazy girl sex! Seriously, this was aiming for a really small audience (namely: [livejournal.com profile] mollita) and it worked right there. River/Mal is a sort of kink, honestly, but it's Molly's kink and it's mine, too, and I think the writing here is some of my strongest.

Your Hands, Clasped, due South, Fraser/Kowalski. Ahahahahaha. It's first person *and* second! It's present tense *and* past tense! It's a first time story *and* a second time story *and* a morning after story *and* a jerk-off story! It has Fraser youth flashbacks *and* woobieriffic rejected Ray *and* belligerent bickering assholeness! Man, I stuck so many kinks into such a relatively short story that this should be a complete and utter mess of a thing, and yet somehow it's this cohesive whole, and I love it.

Hallo. These were lovely indeed. It is always cool to get the author's commentaries, as I can now say to you that despite my relative n00bness in dS fandom (although certainly not the show-watching part), I can hear Fraser's voice in your words. And

And <The Outline of a Circle</i>? Convincing inner monologue. Also, much with the AWWW!
