Winners to the lyrics meme: [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine got four answers correct, and [livejournal.com profile] corinna_5 got three and a half (the Le Tigre song is called "My My Metrocard"). Answers are behind the cut tag, along with yousendit links for most of the songs.

I'm not sure if all the songs work right, so let me know if they're funky.

1. Spin Doctors, Two Princes ([livejournal.com profile] lynnmonster)
And if you want to buy me flowers, just go ahead now
And if you would like to talk for hours, just go ahead now

2. Kristin Hersh, Ruby ([livejournal.com profile] corinna_5)
You're the great convincer
Should I do this
Am I good?

3. Alanis Morissette, All I Really Want ([livejournal.com profile] anyand)
I'm like Estella
I like to reel it in and then spit it out
I'm frustrated by your apathy

4. Magnetic Fields, If I were a Rich Man ([livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine)
There would one long staircase just going up
And one even longer coming down
And one more leading nowhere just for show

5. Sleater-Kinney, Heart Factory
Not like an organ, like a valentine
It's cherry cherry red and it beats on time time time time

6. Old 97's, What I Wouldn't Do ([livejournal.com profile] corinna_5)
Though you have not left you have said goodbye
I'm wishing that we could have made it

7. The Decemberists, As I Rise ([livejournal.com profile] ansin)
California's okay
But I think I may stay in the shade
For a while, for a while

8. Madonna, La Isla Bonita ([livejournal.com profile] nestra)
Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be

9. Weezer, Undone (Sweater Song)
I don't want to destroy your tank-top
Let's be friends and just walk away

10. New Pornographers, Loose Translation ([livejournal.com profile] corinna_5)
The education must have cost her
It must have caused her
To go back to the civilization
Caught between here and the real one

11. Belle & Sebastian, Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying ([livejournal.com profile] ansin)
Said the hero in the story
It is mightier than swords
I could kill you sure
But I could only make you cry with these words

12. Ramones, I Wanna Be Sedated ([livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine)
Just get me to the airport and put me on the plane
Hurry hurry hurry before I go insane

13. Josie & the Pussycats, Come On ([livejournal.com profile] fox1013)
You know I got my choice of any toy, little boy
Replaceable, disposable, full action-poseable

14. Jill Sobule, Love Is Never Equal
Last year I had someone who worshipped at my feet
Gave me everything I wanted but did not interest me
Now I'm standing naked like one of those bad dreams
Where everyone has clothes on except for me

15. The Strokes, Someday ([livejournal.com profile] sprat)
You say you wanna stay by my side
Darling your head's not right
I see alone we stand, together we fall apart
Yeah, I think I'll be all right

16. David Bowie, Moonage Daydream ([livejournal.com profile] thehoyden)
Keep your electric eye on me, babe
Put your ray gun to my head

17. Iron & Wine, Promising Light
Now I see love
There in the scab where you pinched my leg
Now I see love
There on your side of my empty bed

18. R.E.M., The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite ([livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine)
A can of beans or black-eyed peas
Some Nescafe and ice
A candy bar, a falling star
Or a reading from Dr. Seuss

19. Le Tigre, My My Metrocard
Oh fuck Guiliani
He's such a fucking jerk
Shut down all the strip bars
Workfare does not work

20. Rilo Kiley, A Better Son/Daughter ([livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine)
But the lows are so extreme
That the good seems fucking cheap
And it teases you for weeks in its absence
But you'll fight and you'll make it through
You'll fake it if you have to

::downloads greedily::

I missed the first entry, where you posted all the lyrics initially - which is weird, because I have you friended, and also frustrating, because I could actually have gotten a couple of these for once! (Although I would have guessed the Magnetic Fields song as Fiddler on the Roof...)

Thanks for posting all the links. They themselves seem to have worked fine; I'll let you know if any of the files are corrupted.

The Le Tigre tune sounds interesting. Do you recommend I check them out?

Dude--punky feminist electronica! Kathleen Hannah (bitch queen of riot grrl etc)! But check out their first cd first--by far the best one, imo.

(Also: hey Pearl-o! Many thanks for the music--lots of stuff I didn't have. Yay! :) )

Oh, yes. Le Tigre rocks. Feminist-political-dance-art-pop-punk-electronica. "Hot Topic", "Deceptacon", "Let's Run", "Eau d'Bedroom Dancing", "What's Yr Take on Cassavetes", "Get Off the Internet"...

Kathleen Hanna is one of my sekrit heroes.

Riot Grrl - oh, yeah. And Bikini Kill. I remember both of those names.

I despair of ever listening to even an eighth of the great music in the world.

On the other hand, this is not what I'd call a bad problem to have, really. So perhaps I should stop bitching and just go download some more...

Most cool. I've made myself a playlist of precisely these songs on Napster (looks like four of them are on album #1, so I've followed [livejournal.com profile] sprat's orders as well - obedient of me, no?) and will check them out at the earliest opportunity.

Thanks!

Also, I gave Fiddler in the Roof as the right answer, because, you know, I don't expect people to be able to guess random indie pop covers. Because ... that's crazy.
