First three pairings requested for this meme:

Comment with any pairing (or trio) from any of my fandoms and I will ramble (or drabble), as the whim strikes me, for at least 100 words about aforementioned pairing. This may be incoherent gushing or exclamations of disgust or actual writing, depending on my mood.

Frannie/RayK

I realize that most of you have less than no interest in this pairing, and only nod and smile to humor me, and I'm really very much okay with that, especially when it gets me the really awesome sort of stories that it did for my birthday and seekrit-santa. The thing about Ray and Frannie, though, is I think they really do have a lot in common -- between class stuff, family stuff, a sort of uncertain and undefined identity they're searching for, the abrasiveness and sarcasm they use with people, the fact that (in my world) they're both in love with the completely other and completely untouchable Fraser. Plus, you know, I think they genuinely care about each other. I actually do enjoy them quite a bit in gen as well, in a brother-and-sister type way, but I think there's definitely room for the pairing as well -- I mean, there are scenes in I Coulda Been a Defendent, A Likely Story and Dead Men Don't Throw Rice that all have really interesting things to explore there.

Stella/Vecchio

I do not have words for how charming I find this pairing. And the thing is, I'm not even sure *why*. But I watch Call of the Wild, and in between my Fraser-and-RayK love, there's the scenes with them, and I make little squeaking noises and love them and make myself a canon het icon. I think part of the appeal may just be that they seem like such a *grown-up* pairing, somehow. Like, hmm. I think Stella/RayK must have been, like, draining, in a way: the constant energy and action and attention in a relationship with Ray Kowalski must be at least a little wearing. I think Fraser/Kowalski has some ways in which it *is* kind of childlike -- I don't think they're ever going to be easy and calm and perfect like that. Which is one of the things I like about F/K, that edge, but the contrast with Stella/RayV is all the more strong then. Because it does have that feeling of smooth, calm, mature. Real-life happiness without melodrama. Also, they're adorable.

Dief and Fraser

Oh, Dief. Oh, Fraser. I think the Dief and Fraser relationship is central, really; it's not just Fraser being able to be more eccentric by mentioning his wolf all the time, but it's important that Fraser has *somebody*. The loneliness and exile of Fraser is an incredibly important theme, but at least with Dief, he's never completely alone. I think the different aspects of their relationship -- both the closeness of their bond (The Wild Bunch! Sniff!), the snarkiness and sarcasm (um, all of them), the freedom and respect for each other (Mojo RIsing) -- are all balanced very well. Plus, you know, I just find their conversations pretty much endlessly amusing.

Frannie/RayK -- Well, in the beginning, we definitely know that he's attracted to her. But I really do adore the competitive siblingeske vibe that they develop. On the third hand, they could totally have the vibe and still have sex/develop a relationship.

Stella/RayV -- Word. Their relationship utterly charms me, in the very short time that they have together on-screen.

Dief and Fraser -- They are so adorable, yes. Plus, it sets up a template for Fraser to be a snarky wiseass to the people that he loves. He nags Dief at times in a very sweet way. And they're the same on the inside. Fraser has the soul of a half-wolf.

There's something so watchable about Frannie/RayK. They do spark off each other, and they would be my het pairing on that show.

Stella/RayV - is a little meh for me. It just doesn't interest me much.

Now Fraser/Dief is a relationship that I love. They are both so dependent on each other and it's just fascinating viewing.

I love Dief and Fraser's conversations. They talk to each other like siblings, somehow. Like Vecchio and Frannie, just, not as shrill.

Frannie/RayK: There are at least a couple of scenes in which it's pretty obvious the writers were aiming for the "oh my not really brother and sister" angst" deal. And what you said, about how they have a lot in common, is so true! I just - I think that Ray and Frannie, if they give themselves half a chance, can let down walls around each other that they wouldn't for anyone else, because they both have that Fraser-thing, that crush thing, and that is just one hell of a lot of common ground.

Stella/Vecchio: oh god, I love how you wrote about them! THANK you. It's true - even though it irks me (the one not-mature thing is how QUICK it happened in the ep, when all this other stuff is going on. That just bugs me.) in the series, I've read a few really well-done Stella/Vecchio fics/ficlets that just - yeah. I like them. They're a little tired, but real happy to have found love.

Dief/Fraser: *heart heart HEART* You're SO right. YOu nailed it here:

it's not just Fraser being able to be more eccentric by mentioning his wolf all the time, but it's important that Fraser has *somebody*. The loneliness and exile of Fraser is an incredibly important theme, but at least with Dief, he's never completely alone

Yay! *smoooches you*

Real-life happiness without melodrama.

Eeeeeee. Exactly! This is what draws me to most of my favourite canon het pairings, come to think of it.

Hmm, yeah, but -- to be fair, those ending captions don't have any real time indicators, you know? The relationship between the two of them is pretty much all extrapolation from this tiny amount of text, and you can do it as superquickautomatic courtship or slightly slower more eased-into just as easily.

Ooh, yeah, there's totally a big brother-little brother vibe to their interactions -- that's a great point. Although the difference to me, maybe, is the sense of Dief and Fraser choosing their bonds to each other.

*nod* As I said, I find the gen stuff really interesting for Ray and Frannie as well -- there's so many interesting possibilities either way.

Eh, fair enough. There's not any pairing that works for anybody, I guess. I just happen to find it charming. Oh, so charming.

I'm not sure if my canon het pairings have a set pattern, but -- yeah. That's just a lovely quality whenever you find it, I think.
