pairing meme, part 2

FRANNIE/MORT
Dear
china_shop: behind your pleasant and talented and nice exterior, you are apparently completely twisted. Okay, so. Frannie and Mort. I got nothing here. They have, I'm pretty sure, one single interaction in canon, in Dead Man Running. And that scene has, you know, pretty much nothing to support this pairing. I find it really, really difficult to come up with even the vaguest interest in a pairing without something from canon to work with, so this leaves me pretty much "...Eh?" about the two of them. And I mean, there are some pairings you can make a case for without a significant amount of canon interaction (*cough*Ray/Ray*cough) but they generally still have *something* to work from. With Frannie and Mort, it's basically ... they both work in the police station. That's it. Actually, I think Mort isn't really developed that much as a character at all -- he was in the concentration camps, he likes opera, he's a coroner -- so that I would find him difficult to write at all, let alone in a romantic relationship that needs this amount of support.
FRANNIE/FRASER
GAAAAAAAAAAH. Seriously, I mean that. Frannie and Fraser are both characters I adore beyond reason, but just thinking about this pairing makes me cringe. No good can come of this! Just ... no. (Actually, now that I think about it, this might be another example of the same problem I was talking about with Xander/Willow and Clark/Chloe, in a slightly different shape -- it still has the same creepy power balance things for me if you go with the idea of the boy "coming to his senses" and the love becoming requited finally.) I think it's made pretty clear throughout the show that Fraser doesn't like Frannie in a romantic context; he seems to respect her and like her, but it's definitely more fraternal than anything else. Frannie herself seems to grow throughout the series, and I think her realizations in CotW are a big step forward, because she's finally letting go of the stupid dream -- which is basically what Fraser has always been: Handsome Eligible Bachelor Man, not something real.
...I would still read a Frannie/Fraser story, though. Especially if it was horrible and depressing and awkward and miserable for both of them.
COUNT OLAF/DU JOUR
Hee. Hee hee hee. Fox and I are insane, okay? And really, this is the best random pairing generated result EVER. Because ... DuJour! Count Olaf! OT5 much? DuJour means plotting to steal poor orphan's fortunes! DuJour means orgies! DuJour means evil Counts deserve love too! DuJour means orphan-baiting! DuJour means ingenious disguises!
I, uh, could go on with that all day, so I'll stop now. Obviously the main appeal of this pairing is this: IT NEVER STOPS BEING FUNNY.
Also, I assume you all now have somewhat unfortunate images in your head from it.
