yet another wilby wonderful post

So yesterday I was like, "Hmm, I need a Wilby Wonderful icon! Only, like, not, because again with the thing where they all start to look the same and be massive wecons and not so interesting." So I shrugged off that idea for a while. Until something occurred to me and I was like, "Um, self, you do realize that the wecon thing only applies to, like, one of the half-dozen characters you love in the movie, right?" And then I went "...Oh. Right." And I went and made these two icons.

I find my love for all the characters increasing the more I watch it, actually, and somehow Dan especially (the first time I watched it I most appreciated him as an extension of my Duck love, I believe). Last night the baby sis and I watched the director's commentary, making my third viewing. Dan MacIvor is a big dork and the commentary alternately amused me and OMG KILLED ME DEAD. Tenderness. I am an ex-Pearl. Sigh.

I found that too. The more I watched it, the more I identified with the characters in different ways.

There was, of course, the Duck love - and the squee. Oh, my god the squee.

Beyond that was the look Dan gives Duck before he walks off the bridge. His tears in the house. The continual interruptions.

Carol and Buddy's inability to connect. And, at times, it seemed to be a wilful inability - and their sadness.

Sandra's desperation that Emily doesn't repeat her mistakes, by giving her the condoms.

And, of course, the tenderness particularly in the resolution of each couple's story. Buddy was tender with Carol at the police station - her behaviour was appalling - and it was hopeful too, that they could find each other again. The beautiful, beautiful tenderness between Sandra and Emily. And of course Duck and Dan, and how Dan tracks Duck as he walks around the bed.
