People, I am covered with frustration. Please advise me!

Background: I am going along my merry way with the computer, as always. I double click on Firefox to open the internet. Instead of the browser opening, I get a little window thing telling me to choose something. The only thing there already is "default". When I try to click on this, it tells me I can't choose it because it's already running. I check to see if I already have Firefox open; I don't. I try again, same result. I click to get a new one and say Default User. Firefox now opens, but all my bookmarks, themes, extensions, saved password, everything is gone. I panic and open and close it a few times. Same thing. I close everything and restart the computer. This does not solve the problem. The help contents provide me with nothing useful of how to get back my perfectly customized and beloved browser, nor do the options under Tools. I can import my bookmarks from internet explorer, of course, but since I have not used that in six months, this is of limited use.

PLEASE ADVISE. I FEEL ICKY AND WRONG AND CONFUSED.

Edited to add: Problem solved! All is once again right in my world! Yay!

Turn off the computer, count to ten, and start again. There is a background Firefox process running, and the easiest way to stop it is to restart.

(In my experience, at least.)

It sounds like you're having profile troubles. It's possible all your extensions and bookmarks and everything are just in a folder somewhere that Firefox just isn't accessing.

I suggest poking around in the profile manager. Mozilla explains it all here: http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile

I suspect that would have worked if I had followed it when it first started being funny. Instead, I clicked around randomly until something happened and then panicked. This is why I should not be allowed technology privileges.

(But it's back now! Yay!)

I'm just happy I could help! But I will say I've been seriously enjoying your girl!Ray/Fraser snippets, so, you know, more of that couldn't hurt. *g*
