*cries*

Franz Ferdinand doesn't sound even VAGUELY appropriate for Fraser or Ray, brain! YOU ARE CLUTCHING AT STRAWS. Stop listening to "Come On Home" and thinking of Ray in Chicago post-CotW while Fraser's still in Canada!

People. Please help me. Am I not to be allowed to listen to music at all anymore? This is SAD.

*sigh*

Yousendit link so you can see how much it doesn't work (note: m4a, not mp3 format), plus lyrics (now fixed by [livejournal.com profile] rossetti):

Although my lover lives in a place that I can't live
I kind of find I like a life this lonely
It rips and pierces me in places I can't see
I love the rip of nerves, the rip that wakes me

So I'm dissatisfied, I love dissatisfied
I love to feel there's always more that I need

So come on home
So come on home
So come home...

You're where you want to be, I'm where I want to be
Caught up chasing everything I've ever wanted
I replace you easily, replace pathetically
I flirt with any flighty thing that falls my way

But how I needed you, when I needed you
Let's not forget we are so strong, so bloody strong

Come on home
So come on home
So come home...

Blue light falls upon your perfect skin
Falls, and you draw back again
Falls, and this is how I fell
And I can not forget this
And I can not forget this

Come on home
So come on home
But don't forget to leave

I'm going to go do linguistics homework now. There is nothing in minimal pairs to make me think of F/K, at least. Unless there was some kind of linguist!AU--

Of course, one could argue F/K is a minimal pair. ::g::

ARG! What does one need to play m4a format?

Oh my god, I thought Dira was the only one I had to worry about making linguistics puns in my comments.

I'm not exactly sure. That's the format they automatically seem to go into when you upload your CDs in iTunes. Is it not working on whatever you usually use?

And actually it occurs to me that the two Rays would actually be a much better metaphor of a minimal pair. With all the things in common, and then the main contrasting element, showing they're not phonemes.

...I'm going to go do my homework now. Seriously.

Well, I usually play stuff that I have on my HD or in the CD player through Windows Media Player. It's like the computer doesn't even know what to do with the file- it comes up as an unknown type. I have several different media players, and it doesn't want to work on any of them. Not a big deal though! Don't stress.

'Come On Home' is one of my favorite songs ever. 'I'm where I want to be' is engraved on the back of my iPod.

So, normally I wouldn't do this, because it seems a touch rude, but this is one of my favorite songs ever and I love the lyrics; the slight difference you have makes all the difference in the world in interpretation, though it still applies quite well to Fraser and Ray, in a heartbreaking way.

From ff.org, since ff.co.uk just took down their lyrics, for some reason (though god knows that Alex changes them on the fly):

Although my lover lives in a place that I can't live
I kind of find I like a life this lonely
It rips and pierces me in places I can't see
I love the rip of nerves, the rip that wakes me

So I'm dissatisfied, I love dissatisfied
I love to feel there's always more that I need

So come on home
So come on home
So come home...

You're where you want to be, I'm where I want to be
Caught up chasing everything I've ever wanted
I replace you easily, replace pathetically
I flirt with any flighty thing that falls my way

But how I needed you, when I needed you
Let's not forget we are so strong, so bloody strong

Come on home
So come on home
So come home...

Blue light falls upon your perfect skin
Falls, and you draw back again
Falls, and this is how I fell
And I can not forget this
And I can not forget this

Come on home
So come on home
But don't forget to leave

Alex says:

"It’s about losing someone, so its kind of like a torch song, I guess. You used to hold a torch for this person but not being able to let go. Desperately wanting to but being unable to. That’s the essence of a torch song."

I shall edit with the correct lyrics immediately! (I was just pasting from a random lyrics site, actually, and didn't want to link because they're all crazy-pop-up-evil, so I'm glad you did this.)

iTunes, unfortunately. Can't be read in anything else. And iTunes automatically rips to m4a, and tries to convert one's mp3s if one isn't diligent. People talk about MS being bad, but Apple is just as devious.

What can I say, I'm a geek. I squealed when Fraser used the phrase Medieval Latin correctly in a sentence.

Hee. Dude, I am not judging. I've spent horrible amounts of time plotting out imaginary medieval monk AUs (http://www.livejournal.com/users/pearl_o/474472.html).

*giggles* But with [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden's really good AU, there's not really anything else to do with the idea of one of them as an academic, is there?
