AHAHAHAHA, tonight my sister and I rewatched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers for the eight millionth time, and [livejournal.com profile] stumbledhere knows exactly why that is ALL HER FAULT.

Best horribly sexist old-fashioned cheesy Hollywood musical EVAH. Millie/Adam OTP!!!!

Pretty and trim but not too slim
Heavenly eyes and just the right size
Simple and sweet, and sassy as can be!
Bless her beautiful hide
Yes, she's the gal for me

Oh, yeah, and that "Sobbin' Women" is basically about a mass gang rape by the Romans...eeee. I love Howard Keel, but that musical just makes me cringe.

One of my favorite movies of all time and part of the reason behind my life-long Julie Newmar crush.

Oh, the women was Sabine, Sabine, Sabine fit to be tied...

(omg Amber Tamblyn is RUSS Tamblyn's daughter. Of course she is. *facepalm*)

Also, house-raising dance scene? Among the best full-cast dance scenes evar.

i adore this movie beyond all sense and reason. ADORE IT. it's in my top five movie musicals of all time. and russ tamblyn is SO YOUNG. why oh why isn't there more musical fic? [livejournal.com profile] smallbeer and i keep saying we're going to do something about it, but then we never have.

you should definitely check out the remastered soundtrack. it's got all these demo versions of the songs, many sung by stanley donen himself (or johnny mercer), with much more, um. explicit lyrics. some of the just outrageously sexist premise lightens a little when you realize that they were clearly trying to make a MORE CAMPY film about what mountaineers do when they ain't got a woman. let's just say there's NO WAY that this movie is not, on some level, one big bestiality joke. the censored lyrics are so over the top that donen even starts laughing midway through one of the tracks. and also having him singing "going co'tin'" and an outtake called "queen off the may" is fun for hours.

if you don't want to get the whole disc, let me know and i'll upload just those tracks or burn and mail them to you.

Dude, that would be seriously AWESOME.

The bestiality joke is kind of really obvious even in just the lonesome polecat song. A man can't sleep when he sleeps with sheep.

Heeeeee. I can see that, even though everyone in my family is actually kind of creeped out by Dorcas.

Usually I find long extended dance sequences to be kind of, uh. REALLY BORING, but all the ones in this movie make me cackle with glee.

My friend showed me that movie during college? During that song, don't they have a part where they're singing about the girls they DON'T want and then pointing out girls who walk by as examples? I think I remember something like that. :)

That first sentance was a statement, not a question.

Stupid punctuation!
