the turnbull and thatcher show

When I was watching "Hunting Season" last week at Livia's place, one of the things I noticed and meant to comment on later was the Thatcher and Turnbull scenes, which -- okay, here's the thing. For the most part, I find Turnbull pretty boring, and I think Thatcher's interesting stuff was all in season 2. But there are times, and this episode is one of them, when Thatcher and Turnbull seem like they are in a totally different show than everybody else, and it's a show where they are the main characters and stars, and instead of being whatever show we're watching, they have some freaky sitcom buddy comedy going on all by themselves. It's especially strong in "Hunting Season", and it's actually kind of bizarrely charming.

Yes! Exactly! That conversation, where Thatcher actually asks Turnbull's advice, and he seems to give the matter sane and serious consideration -- that's the basis for the very tiny little tendril of Thatcher/Turnbull in my head. Plus that Turnbull clearly has much more going on beneath the surface than he usually shows. He does the naive!Mountie act in extremis, but maybe it is all (or partly (or just a teeny tiny little bit)) an act.

*giggles* That is an extremely profound observation, and so totally true. Did they do it on purpose, do you think? Did it irk Paul Gross, or did he even notice? *loves*

(okay, every time you or china shop talk about an episode, I have to go and watch it that very night. Thank GOD I got season three this weekend.)

Oooh, pretty Frannie!

Thatcher/Turnbull is a tiny bit worrisome because of the huge inequality of their relationship. But the fact that they're both drawn so ridiculously queer make it kind of cute in a way, too.
