The weird thing is, the subject of my DOOM-paper is actually seriously fascinating. It kind of makes me curse my time management skills, because I could have done so much more with this. I am sorry I am failing you, medieval pilgrimage!

22/3/06 04:57 (UTC)Hi here is commentficspam for you!
Izzie Stevens was never going to be that girl. She swore to herself, like, eighteen times in the first week, that she was not going to be that girl anymore. She was not going to get attached. She was going to be cheerful and pleasant and people would like her but she would not get attached because that was how you got hurt. She was definitely, definitely, not going to fall in love with anyone at work.
Which, of course, fell apart, like, three seconds into getting there.
Everyone wore their hearts on their sleeves (well, except Cristina, maybe, and that was why she was with Burke; the cardiologist knew how to get to hidden things like that) and everyone immediately made the professional the way-way-way-way personal (hi, Meredith!) and there was nothing Izzie could do but join in.
Which didn't explain her totally inexplicable crush on George, in any way, but at least it framed it in a way she could understand.
Sleeping with Alex was, you know, sleeping with Alex. It was like falling off a log and having a ton of orgasms before you hit the ground. But after hitting rock bottom- or, well, the ground at least- you have to start looking at things. And Alex was, no, and Denny was dead, and George...
God, she was not going to do this! She was not going to fall in love with her former roommate!
But there was that night she sat there crying, for, like, hours, and he just put his arm around her and kind of rubbed her back in little concentric circles and didn't ask her to say anything but periodically said that she deserved better.
And there was the way he stood on the picket line, the type of thing Izzie wished she could do but never really did but George totally went through with it, George who supposedly had no backbone but was the strongest of all of them if you looked at it.
And the way that sometimes, he looked kind of sheepish and kind of amused in a way that just made her want to kiss him.
And then one day a teacher came in. A teacher, who lived right near Izzie, who could barely afford the trip to the hospital, never mind the care. Izzie'd cried in a bathroom, and Meredith had encouraged her to get the surgery anyway, but George was the one who went in and made sure that compromises were made, that the hospital footed some of the bill and a grant took some and he, George, he put in like two hundred dollars he didn't even have, and when she left the hospital he looked as happy as he had when he flew solo for the first time.
Izzie kissed him that night. A movie-star kiss. The kind that swept you off your feet and made you swoon.
And he seemed confused, at first, and it seemed like a massively bad idea.
Then she felt his hand on her back, rubbing in concentric circles. And then reaching for her bra.
Izzie helped.
So, okay, maybe she was totally that girl. Again.
It was totally worth it.
