1) Last night in [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl's journal, I might have made a comment along the lines of "CKR should be fucked, and often, and by somebody who knows how."

Um. Mangling classic quotes for porn purposes = for the win? Maybe?

2) I am still thinking about kidfic an awful lot. Help me! Seriously, what is it about due South fandom? I know there's no other fandom I've been in where I actually want my OTP to get together and be together 4eva and be domestic and HAVE BABIES OMG. But, um, RayK and Fraser? I want them to be daddies. I can't help it. And I have heard many other people say the same exact thing -- usually kidfic isn't their thing, but in dS? Bwee. What the hell is that about, you guys?

(Hmm, I am still annoyed with myself for missing Dira's kidfic panel at Muskrat Jamboree. LAME, erica, LAME.)

I don't know if you guys know this, but Diefenbaker really, really likes babies. He is FIERCELY PROTECTIVE of random nobody-cares-about-the-damn-baby in A Cop, A Mountie and a Baby. (Fox, Dief LOVES BABIES. He likes to PROTECT THEM. It's VERY CUTE. *cough*)

Which is to say, I want you to imagine for a second what Dief would be like with FRASER's baby. Seriously. omg, what if something happened to Fraser and/or Ray and Dief had to TAKE CARE of the kid and protect him/her from the bad guys? Dief herding along tiny toddler or grade-schooler to safety!!! o. m. g.

Hi, I am pathetic and just melted my own heart. Um. I think I lost my point.

3) I really, really love this picture of Don McKellar and Daniel MacIvor. I'm just throwing that out there.

4) In conclusion, Fraser is wearing boots, suspenders, puffy pants and a wifebeater. Please indicate how he could be any hotter without actually being naked or engaged in kissing with another person. (AS ALWAYS, extra points for diagrams!)

Clearly we think alike.

So it came that he didn’t notice him rightaway, although the kid was standing only six feet or so away from him, staring interested at all the people surrounding him. When Ray did look up after all and saw the small guy standing there, he first took a double-take and then a deep breath. The boy stood there and looked at everything with a keen interest, as if he’d never seen anything quite like this before. Slowly Ray stood up and walked over to the kid. He saw Ray coming and looked up at him with open curiosity. Looked at Ray with big blue eyes that seemed familiar in a way Ray didn’t like to think about. Seemed like Fraser’s eyes and that still hurt way too much. Back in his mental drawer with it, he’d deal with the memories later.

...

“Hey.” Ray got a radiating smile in return. The boy was beaming at him, his entire face filled with wonder. Ray couldn’t help himself - he had to make a funny face. His reward was a small giggle and then the boy grinned shyly at him.

“What’s your name, champion?”

“My name’s Robin.”

...

“Hey, what’s your dad doing here, anyway? And why did he take you with him?”

Robin nodded. His earnestness made Ray grin. The boy was like a miniature Fraser. He just laughed more.

“My papa’s going to work here. And Mr Turnbull didn’t have time to watch us and it shouldn’t have taked long anyway.”

“Taken,” Ray corrected almost absentminded. Turnbull? He couldn’t think of any other person named Turnbull in the greater Chicago area, but one Renfield Turnbull, Constable of the RCMP, currently stationed at the Canadian Consulate in Chicago. Dumbly Ray stared at Robin. Surely it couldn’t be. It just couldn’t.

Except then suddenly a white whirl of fur came hurling towards them and jumped on Ray’s lap, trying to lick the hell out of him.

“Diff!” came another delighted squeal from Robin, while Ray took to yelling: “Down! Down, furface!”

He half-petted, half-pushed Dief away from him and the wolf went willingly, but without seeming to calm down any. He turned around again and again, whuffing excitedly and jumping a little around.

I beg to excuse the crappiness of the writing at place. First draft and all that shit. (That would be my infernal WIP #30343409, the kidfic. One of them. Please don't ask.)

I really think the words themselves are explanatory enough! *sparkles*

Also, I often think Dan and Don, when they hang out, spend most of their time together discussing the different ways they've imagined fucking CKR. I can't really be persuaded otherwise.

....oh. Is that...all of it?

::big, limpid, anime-eyes::

And twist my heart but for a second I thought it was the tyke calling Dief furface, a name he could only have picked up from his dad, who could only have been using it because he had never gotten over Ray, the only way he could hack it alone in Canada was to pretend Ray was actually there, one step back and to the left, and would go about his day conducting a silent running dialogue that only revealed itself in the appropriation of Ray's more domestic colloquialisms, and sometimes Fraser would freeze in the chip aisle in Tuktakwhatever, having only just stopped himself from chastising Ray out loud on his (imagined) request for the neon-green-powdered potato crisps or...

::stuffs fist in mouth with a sob::

Wait, they're going to get together and be happy, right? And there will maybe be hair ruffling and Ray being a soccer mom at Little League, as well?

by "happened to" - what do we mean here? was there an avalanche or something?

*is still suspicious of suprprise death-fic scenarios*

p.s. was too busy at work to reply to your last post but very strongly approve. very very strongly indeed.

If you don't get to use your friends' weaknesses to pimp them into a fandom, what is the point of having friends, HUH?

no! This could not be a deathfic scenario AT ALL. Like, if Fraser and Ray got separated from the kid by the bad guys, and thus it was just kid and Dief! But then in the end THEY ARE ALL REUNITED AND NO ONE IS DEAD! *gives you my word of honor*

*beams* The last post makes me very happy. I am glad there is something we can all agree on like this.

I read "Dan and Don" and "Dan and Duck" for a moment. It was very confusing.

But, um, yeah! I am willing to believe Don McKellar is pretty much straight, but I think every straight guy who works with Callum has an automatically "gay exception" button.

No. There's a little bit more of it, although Ray and Fraser have yet to interact. It's all plotted out though until the little one goes to HS or thereabouts.

Oooooooh. You are giving me ideas! ;)

They'll be very happy. :D

I don't know what it is about kidfic in due South that butters my muffin. It just does when in every other fandom I've ever been in I backed away fast from kidfic. I think it's because the writers of almost all of the kidfic I've read in dS have written real kids. You know, kids that aren't precocious and perfect.

Fraser in a wife beater, no matter what else he has on, is never not hot.

I have an answer to that:

Unlike 85% of the slash pairings out there, Ray & Fraser would be good parents.

As an example: Fox Mulder & Alex Krychek? Justin & JC? Kirk & Spock?

Right.

Where Ray & Fraser are just looking for the excuse to settle into placid personal lives. Sure, there may be crime fighting. There may be adventure.

But at the end of the day they have jobs, responsibilities, insurance, and are stable and ready for a kid. Ray was married for a good 15 years. Fraser held the torch for a woman he sent to jail for a decade. They know commitment. Ray has cannonical interest in aquireing kids. Fraser is good with babies.

It's just so perfect. The question isn't "Why kidfic". With DS, the questions are more prosaic "Chicago or Canada?" "Is child due to ex-girlfriend or adopted?" "whose last name does it get"

I mean, it is impossible not to love kid fic for a show that is at its core incredibly domestic.

*giggles* I am always wary about "our writing is just better" explanations, just because I knwo that the best story in the world in another fandom wouldn't hold my interest.

Okay, that is an incredibly good point. You're totally right, they ARE domestic. They just want a happily ever after and sit around doing their own lives. So it makes a weird sense for them in a way it doesn't for most people.

Exactly. For them, the natural next step is the whole settling down process. A kid? Fits right in.

It's a combination of age, personality, and the show set up.

Personally, I want to read about what happened when Turnbull married Donna Martin and they moved to California....
