schmerica: (try as hard as you can)

So my new laptop came with a trial period of Microsoft Office, which just ran out on April 30. I don't have money to convert to the actual product, so it's gone now. I do still have two files saved, containing my "books read so far this year" and "books I want to read sometime in the future". They're saved in .docx format, though, so I can't open them in Open Office. Do any of you guys have Word 2007, so I could email you the files and you could just copy and paste the information into a text file for me? Because ... books! Recordkeeping is important. Edited to add: DONE! Thank you so much to all you guys who offered to help.

I very much need to go grocery shopping. This is yet another one of those times when my not having a constant companion to take care of me and take me places really sucks.

I do have an untouched five pound bag of (white, long-grain) rice, though. What's good, simple and hopefully cheap with plain rice, anyway?

I'm lying on my stomach on my bed, using my laptop, and the kitty is lying across the small of my back. It's nice.

I think I shall go watch Supernatural now, since Fox isn't online to discuss last night's Grey's Anatomy.

I have Word 2007! I can convert it for you!

But I am about to head out and wouldn't get it done tonight.

it's seriously the most disgusting-looking thing ever, but one of my fave, quick, warm, comforting things to eat is:

1 serving rice (cook it!)
1 can refried beans (cook it! add the rice!)
a nice amount of [orange-type] cheese (add it to the above and let it melt!)
pepper, crushed red pepper, whatever you like (add it to the above!)

and there you go! a plate full of grey-ish glop that tastes GREAT. (YMMV)

Oh, I see you have a solid offer, but I'd like to see the files anyway? The bf is laying all this stuff on me like, "you can open .docx in X and Y programs" and I want to see if he's lying. I'd try to make sense of what he said and tell you, but you only have the two files, so after today it wouldn't matter.

The kitty left, though! So now I am alone. Of course, I can also sit more comfortably, so I guess it evens out.

Huh! A can of refried beans is actually one of the random things I still have in my cupboards. Intriguing.

True! My rice pilaf always seems to lack flavor, though, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I find it helps to use chicken broth (if I've got any) instead of water when cooking the rice, and also bacon or some kind of meat at the beginning, to add flavor as well. Because yeah, it can be kind of bland otherwise.

Hmm. I think I may make that for dinner myself, now!

Drive by pimping of www.shelfari.com! It has your bookshelf, as well as reading lists and wishlists! And then you can gaze lovingly at little thumbnails all in a row of the books you've read, and tag them, and write opinions and start discussion threads about them...and link to them in blogs/myspaces!

Oh how I love it.
