So, uh, I quit my job yesterday -- a first for me! And on the one hand it kind of sucks, because ... I still need money pretty desperately, basically, and now I have to search for something else. But it's also for the best, because a place that makes me throw up from anxiety in the morning or burst into tears after work is not a good place to be.

(I didn't burst into tears because of the job. Not just because, anyway. It was a whole combination of the meaningless hateful job PLUS living in the middle of nowhere where you can't do anything without a car PLUS all my friends being really far away PLUS having the next six months of my life being a giant void, etc etc etc.)

Here are my plans for today: read sf novels, practice my Latin, hang out with my siblings. Boring stuff, mostly.

MEANWHILE OH MAN YOU GUYS. I suddenly really really really need to read some Fraser/Kowalski fic with arranged marriage premises. I don't have any idea what might inspire a need for an arranged marriage or marriage of convenience? But you guys are smart! I know it! Also, now that I have mentioned it, don't you all crave it too? I thought so!

Huh. I've never read that in dS! You are right - someone let me know if one is found or written please.

Oh god. I did not hear that. I spent a very educational five minutes in Smith's reading all the Mills&Boon titles and how they were all variations on the same thing, they seemed particularly fond of the words: virgin, millionaire, and bride

I love you a lot.

Just thought I'd mention that.

(Not enough to write you Fraser/Kowalski arranged marriage fic. But, you know. A lot anyway.)

[livejournal.com profile] dessert_first and I are working on an arranged marriage fic for [livejournal.com profile] ds_harlequin. It's set in Regency England, and the plot may or may not involve mistaken identity, chases, escapes, tuw wove and hot mansex. It is all completely historically accurate, too!* Dess and I are sticklers for research. And I think we've written about two scenes and a very detailed outline. Coming soon to a fanfic archived near you! (Or...not soon. Whichever).

*Except for the part where two men have to marry to preserve their fortunes and/or family name. That's just extra icing on the historical cake!

And good call on quiting the job. I am highly in favour of not doing the minimum wage-slavery thing if it can be avoided. I know finances are tight but you'll be able to find something better, I promise. *hugs*

Which is to say: eeeeee!

Oh yeah, "the Greek Millionaire and his Virgin Bride" They seem to endorse Stockholm Syndrome as a matchmaking technique. They all seem to be lured away from their "pure" lives on small islands etc... *hmm*

Uh, and on the F/K front, how about I Was A Male War Bride?

Jumping the thread (sorry): Yes, god. Arranged marriage. The hardest thing about leaving HP was giving up the forced bonding. I feel like I should get that on a t-shirt.

Buzzy, I can't find that fic. I think maybe I've read it(?), but maybe not. Any chance you could point me in the right direction or give me more hints? Searching isn't getting me anything.

As for me, I could totally endorse Stockholm Syndrome if it would get me to a Greek island and I didn't have to work.

Oh, this is totally my bad. I wasn't talking about an F/K fic, but suggesting that if forced bonding was what pearl wanted, maybe we should try and write something based on the film, "I Was A Male War Bride". Totally my bad, since I didn't join up my thoughts right. Sorry for causing you so much fic searching bother.

No, it all worked out for the best. It turned out there's a McShep with that name that was written for ReelSGA. Which is why I thought I'd read it. I'm only partially insane. :)

Ray goes to Canada for no particular reason and accidentally (because he's a three-beer straight) impregnates a Canadian woman, who then has the kid and dies (or something), having neglected to put his name on the birth certificate. Ray finds out because she told her parents who the kid's father was, and he wants to move to Canada to take care of it (because the grandparents are kind of old, and also it's his kid and he wants to get to know it), but he can't get residency. UNLESS he enters into a stable domestic relationship with a Canadian. And the only Canadian he knows from a bar of soap is this Mountie who used to work with his lieutenant a couple of years ago...
