Unspoilery thoughts: HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AMAZING.

More specific:

1. James T. Kirk is every single thing that usually make me hate male characters and yet ILHIM SFM OMG YOU GUYS. What the fuck is that?

2. I have heard a couple of people mention that although they can see Kirk/Spock in the original, they didn't really see it in this movie. I can see where those people are coming from? But they are so wrong. SO WRONG. People! Can you not see how hard Old!Spock ships them? That is because that is how all right-thinking people think, because they are the OTP that transcends time and alternate realities.

3. HOLY SHIT OLD SPOCK. Kelly and I have a habit of poking or nudging each other when we get emotionally involved in particular moments in a movie. During the part in the cave, we practically had a slapfight. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ OMG.

4. Nobody had told me that Uhura was a linguist! Hearts in my eyes.

5. I would do every single person on that crew. Kirk, Spock, Uhura, McCoy, Sulu, Chekov, Scotty -- all of them.

6. I fucking love Simon Pegg, omg.

7. I am losing track of what I wanted to say. It was just so awesome, you guys! Did you see Sulu's retractable fencing sword? and lololololol Winona Ryder? And sexy kissing (which Spock has no comment about)? And McCoy giving Kirk lots of painful shots in the neck? EVERYTHING ABOUT LEONARD NIMOY OMG (the ending monologue!!!!!)?

You guys you guys you guys it was so awesome.

Now I guess I have to go watch things with the original cast! I'm thinking the even movies (2 and 4) and then maybe some of TOS, unless you inform me 1 and 3 are worth watching too.

3 is kind of important to understand 4 (2-4 are kind a self-contained trilogy), so at least read a wiki summary, and 6 is pretty good. NEVER WATCH 5. EVER. 1's pretty good if you can't sleep, though!

I HAVE seen 2 before, so I remember the gigantic fucking spoiler from the end for that movie. I assumed 3 was just ... undoing that?

Um, kind of, yes? Vaguely plausibly, sort of, even. But 4 literally directly follows 3, so it will help you with why Spock is... even less there than normal. And why they're in a Klingon Bird of Prey instead of the Enterprise.

There is much ficcy goodness at st_reboot. Including a story in which Sulu forgot to take off the parking break because he was flustered by the pretty Russian kid sitting next to him!

I KNOW! HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE? And yet.

And I would watch ST: The Motionless Picture; it's necessary to understand some of the best fanfic/most important fanon tropes. Just-- bring a book. There's a good 30 minutes of K/S subtext in it, but it's parceled out across a 3-hour movie.

INORITE? Ugh I should not like him, and yet he is so basically decent that I don't mind his being kind of a douche. Actually, possibly I love him because the movie especially made him into exactly my type of character, in that they acknowledged that he is kind of a failbot and let him look ridiculous and douchey as well as Swagger McWomanizer, and I am totally okay with dudes being dumbasses who get called on it. Also Chris Pine has such a pretty goddamn mouth, jfc.

Also I want tons of fic about him and Gaila, Uhura's roommate, where they are friends with benefits and possibly they just kind of :D? at McCoy until he has a threesome with them.

UGH DUDE IT'S JUST SO AWESOME. There's a kinkmeme for fic, but not much else that I've found so far.

3 is worth watching for the lulz, possibly? And to understand a bit more about 4, as someone else said.
