schmerica: (kirk has a thinky face)

Here is a list of some TOS episodes I have watched in the last few days!

+Whom Gods Destroy
+The Mark of Gideon
+That Which Survives
+Let That Be Your Last Battlefield
+The Lights of Zetar
+Requiem for Methuselah

Now, you guys have been around long enough to know my super appreciative enthusiasm for Star Trek, I'm sure, so I know you will take in the same indulgent manner I intended it when I tell you that I've been grouping these episodes together in my head as "the dull ones." Like. Seriously. I liked it when Kirk and fake!Kirk fought in Whom Gods Destroy? Let That Be Your Last Battlefield was even preachier than usual? That's like six hours of TV and those are the deepest thoughts I have to share, seriously. There's no there there.

There is one very striking exception to this rule, though, and that is the last three minutes or so of Requiem for Methuselah. Omigod, you guys. That episode was pretty blah all the way through -- Kirk fell in love with an android, she became human and died, blah blah blah -- but that transfer in the end scene from Kirk's manpain to Spock observing Kirk's manpain, and then followed by McCoy's speech.

I'm copying down the whole thing here, just because:

You wouldn't understand that, would you, Spock? You see, I feel sorrier for you than I do for him because you'll never know the things that love can drive a man to. The ecstasies, the miseries, the broken rules, the desperate chances, the glorious failures, the glorious victories. All of these things you'll never know simply because the word love isn't written into your book. Goodnight, Spock.

And Spock follows that up by erasing Rayna from Kirk's mind. Just like Kirk wished he could do, like McCoy wished for him. Spock does this unexcusable thing to Kirk's mind and there's no explanation for it except McCoy's speech, no explanation except that he loves Kirk. And that's the end of the episode.

I just. You guys. I flail at you in a meaningful manner. *FLAILS*

In other news it has been gray and rainy all afternoon and I feel it is absolutely glorious. I missed you, perfect snuggly autumn weather. I currently have two loaves of pumpkin apple bread cooking in the oven to welcome fall in. It smells cinnamony all through the apartment.

Tonight I am going to drink a lot of vodka and watch a lot of Greek, in honor to my comrade [livejournal.com profile] loveyouallwrong who could not join me tonight. Tomorrow [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 and I were thinking about going to the Medieval Festival, which -- on the one hand part of me just wants to stay home and do laundry and work on homework, but on the other hand, it's a motherfucking medieval festival. So I don't know! Anybody else planning on going?

Yeah, those last 3 minutes say a lot about how Spock feels about Kirk. There are a bunch of times when McCoy needles Spock about not feeling anything, only to immediately either admit that Kirk is the exception (Bread and Circuses) or have the viewers see it (Requiem, Tholian Web).

Say, is the Medieval Fest child friendly? I have a 4 year old who loves swords and jousting. We could pretty easily take MetroNorth in tomorrow. I've been wanting to take him to Sterling Forest, so how does that compare to this one in Manhattan?

That scene is Breads & Circuses is one of my favorites, too.

Also, uh, I have no clue? I haven't been there before, so I only know what's on the site.

I cheated and started the Greek already -- one episode left of s1, and then on to s2 -- but I think I'm about ready to go pour my first drink now. \o/

Pumpkin apple bread sounds really delicious. Plain pumpkin bread (with walnuts!) is my favorite that-type-of-bread EVER and adding apples is never a bad life choice, so.

Oh, the festival looks awesome! And if it's not, it's free, right? So you can always skip out early! Which is to say, I vote yes and if I were back east I would be trying to find my way up there. THERE IS A UNICORN FORUM. MIKEYWAY WILL BE DISAPPOINTED IF YOU DON'T GO.

Opinion opinions on Greek? What are your thoughts so far?

I just tried some and it is delicious! Here is a copy of the recipe I used, although my baking time was longer: http://www.amateurgourmet.com/2005/10/fall_into_fall_.html

Also what I really need is to get the recipe for my mom's apple walnut bread, which is actually totally a cake. It's baked in a bundt pan and the sides get really hard and crispy and crunchy and brown sugary like the inside is practically melting from the baked apples in it. So good.

I think Amy and I are probably going to skip it, even though it is awesome, just because she was out all day being around people and I really od need to do the laundry and homework. We so don't deserved to live in New York. :(

I really like Greek! I watched the first eighteen or nineteen episodes with Kelly back in July but I was too lazy to keep watching without her. But Lea was going to make me do it, so I am making the effort now!

Ty! Mmmm, il all apple cakes :D

That is most understandable. I just went to work and ran some errands today, but I feel so tired. I've been being more social than usual too because staying over and it's surprising how tiring it can be.

\o/ I AM LIKE THAT ABOUT SHOWS ALL THE TIME. And by all the time, I mainly mean Merlin. I am just not invested enough to seek it out :(

The problem with this plan is that I forgot how sleepy I get drinking alone. I finished the last three episodes of season 1, and I was about to start s2 but sooooo sleeeepy. :(

Ugh, ih that point. I POSSIBLY TEND TO GO STRAIGHT FOR DRUNK TO AVOID IT BUT THAT JUST LEADS TO ME STOMPING AROUND AND PRETENDING TO BE GODZILLA AND TELLING LEA ALL MY SECRETS VIA IM.

Sleep sounds goooood though. I'm so tired :( but I have a can of vanilla coke and it sounds like such a good idea. Only then I'll be up for HOURS.

I totally want to move the bread into different rooms and place them right in front of the fans. I WANT THE ENTIRE HOUSE TO SMELL LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME.
