Our Mornings
Starring: Ellen Page, James McAvoy, Zoe Saldana, and Callum Keith Rennie

Music: "The Drying of Our Lawns" by the Tallest Man on Earth

Synopsis: Three years ago, Lilly Gordon (Page) watched her beloved brother Teddy (McAvoy) go off to fight in the war, leaving her alone and useless back at home. In the time since, she imagined his homecoming a million times, but when it finally comes, there's one thing he never could have imagined: Hélène (Saldana), the pretty foreign bride he has brought home, never mentioned in a single one of his letters.

Lilly knows immediately that the marriage is a mistake, that Helene has to be taking advantage of her innocent brother, using him to get out of Europe and live it up in America. But every marriage has its secrets, and there are things Teddy can't tell his sister, even if he's always told her everything. One of them is his true sexuality, and another one is the promise he made to his dying lover, whose child Hélène is carrying.

Meanwhile, Hélène has left her home behind and is in a new, unfamiliar world, practically alone, with a sister-in-law who resents her, a husband she respects but doesn't love, the memory of her lost lover, and townspeople who gawk and whisper every time they see her on the street. But slowly, she forms a tender friendship with Lilly and Teddy's quiet, gentle uncle James (Rennie), who raised them after they were orphaned as young children, a WWI who lost his right arm to that war.

(I fail at graphics way too much to make any sort of decent thing to go along with this, but here, at least, is something vaguely inspirational.)

Argh, this is a terrible meme, because it taunts me with glimpses of awesome things that will never beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Which is to say, I love this and desperately want the full movie version. (Tender CKR/Zoe Saldana with war angst, get in my pants immediately.)

I really love the meme, just because it makes such a good creativity exercise, you know? And I definitely haven't been doing enough of that lately. Although I know exactly what you mean, too, because I have so many more thoughts of this (like Lilly! being the one left behind, and feeling useless as a girl, and he went off and grew while she's still the same, and they're no longer complete in themselves like when they were kids, and she's been kind of living vicariously through him and now has to learn to live her own life for her! Teddy and his big gaymo 40s angst! Helene learning to be an American housewife and James's little kindnesses to her making each day easier! Mmm.)
