You know those ridiculous and fluffy modern AUs? Yeah. Here, have 700 words from a universe where Charles and Erik meet on a tropical vacation and get married on like their second date. BECAUSE WHY NOT.

P.S. Someone else should write the actual story for this. I'll be your best friend, I swear!

*****

Charles had told Raven there was no need for her to pick him up at the airport, but she had ignored him. It was a long flight, and she'd seen Charles jet-lagged enough times to know that even though he could certainly get himself home himself, it would be easier for everyone if she took care of it. She could always use more "best sister ever" points, anyway, even if it meant dealing with airport parking.

And besides, Charles had been gone for almost a month. She was eager to see him again.

She waited impatiently outside the security checkpoint, shifting her weight from one foot to another as she scanned the crowd. She spotted Charles, waved her hand to him to get his attention, and watched his face break into a grin.

He walked quickly towards her. He stopped in front of her, dropping his bag at his side and opening his arms to wrap her into a hug. "It's so good to see you, Raven!"

"You, too, Charles," said Raven. She set her hands on his arms and looked him up and down. "Look at you, with a tan. I barely recognized you. What happened to the pasty nerd I love?"

"Mmm," said Charles, "fresh air. Sunshine. Happiness." He looked behind him, and for the first time Raven noticed the tall man standing a few paces behind them. "Erik, this is Raven."

The man stepped forward. There was almost no expression on his face. He was wearing a leather jacket and dark sunglasses, and he was working the very fine line between really hot and kind of creepy.

"Raven," Erik said. He nodded to her once.

Raven looked from Erik's face back to Charles's.

"Raven," Charles said, and if he had been grinning before, his face was almost bursting now, "I'd like to present to you Mister Erik Lehnsherr." He reached out, took Erik's hand in his own and squeezed. "My husband."

"I--" said Raven. "What?"

"I told you on the phone I had a surprise for you!"

"Oh," said Raven. "I thought -- I thought you meant you bought me a scarf or something."

There was a curve to Erik's mouth that might have been a smirk, or maybe a smile. He twisted to pick up Charles's carry-on with his free hand, not letting ago of Charles's hand in his. "Perhaps we should get moving?" he suggested. "Out of people's way."

"Yes, of course," Charles said, "that's a brilliant idea."

She followed them down to the baggage claim, listening to Charles's excited chatter. She sneaked side glances at Erik - his profile was pretty perfect, she had to admit, she couldn't fault Charles there.

"So how did you guys meet?" she asked, as they waited by the carousel.

Erik looked towards her. "I was drowning," he said, "and Charles rescued me." She couldn't place his accent. European, somehow.

"Is that a metaphor or something?"

Charles laughed, but Erik didn't blink.

"Charles saved my life," he said.

Charles picked up Erik's hand and brought it to his mouth, pressing a kiss on the surface. Now Raven could see the dull gold ring on Erik's finger.

"Jesus, Charles," Raven said, shaking her head. "You're married. I can't believe it."

"I can hardly believe it myself," Charles said cheerfully. "Wonderful, isn't it?"

"It's amazing," Raven said, and if her voice was a little on the dry side, Charles didn't appear to notice.

When Erik stepped forward to pick up the next bag, she tugged Charles close and whispered in his ear, "You have so much explaining to do here, you jerk."

"All in good time, my dearest," Charles said. "You are going to love him, I promise you."

"Yeah, he seems like a fun guy."

Charles smiled. "Just wait." He pecked her cheek. "And I did get you a souvenir, you know."

"Is it a scarf? Or six foot man candy?"

"Well, it's a dress, in fact," Charles said, "but I'm certain you'll love it anyway."

"We'll see," Raven said, and then Erik was back with the suitcases, and she lead them out to her car.

Charles is all GOT MY HOT GUY! GOT MY FAVE SISTER! HOME! LIFE IS GOOD! Also, it's not outside the realm of possibility he had a bit of champagne on the plane.

Erik is more like "Ugh, plane trip. Ugh, airport. Ugh, meeting new people and having to be nice to them because Charles said it was important to him. Ugh."

Just wait until the reception party Charles is gonna throw for you guys, Erik.

Now you've got me trying to figure out all the details of this vacation marriage. I'm seeing Charles as his this rich dude who decides to do a tour of the Mediterranean after getting his professorship, and then runs into Erik at some place off the Spanish coast when he sees Erik falls off a boat and dives in to save him. And then Erik offers his services as a guide because he speaks Spanish and they go on dates and then one night, they're both kind of drunk and feeling very lovebirdy and so they get married. And then of course Charles takes Erik along on his trip and it turns into some sort of honeymoon.

And then they fly home and Erik gets to meet everyone and become part of the family.

Also, are you seeing this as a powered or non-powered AU?

I LIKE THESE DETAILS. Charles is totally off on a celebrating-good-jobs-news thing, and he and Erik meet up by accident, and just get hitched ~~~in the moment~~~

But now vacation is over and Erik goes home with Charles and like - I mean, they're still in love, but the realization that REAL LIFE and they don't know each other that well really and adapting to actually being married. And also other people. (At least one of Charles's friends has to think Erik is a golddigger, it's the law.)

Also, I was thinking non-powered - why, do you have a preference?

I do not! I was just wondering.

I wonder if Charles would go back to Westchester? I mean, it's a nice place and all, but at least in the movie he didn't seem like he was using it until the whole training thing, so I wonder if that's where he'd take a newly married Erik. Actually, wait, I like the idea of Charles taking Erik back to his apartment in NYC, which is all fancy and stuff, and Erik thinks that's his only home. Then one day Charles is like, yeah, I got this place up in Westchester, and then they go there and Erik is like "... I see."

Also, I'm trying to think of ways to incorporate all the characters as his friends somehow, but I don't know how they'd all meet if their mutantness doesn't bring them together. Moira I guess would be his friend. And Angel would be friends with Raven (and by extension Charles). They could be roommates! She could be the one who thinks Erik is a gold digger? And Charles would know Hank through work, I guess. LOL now it's getting kind of convoluted in my head because I'm trying to figure out where to place all these people in Charles's life. Planning this shit is hard!

God, I just love the idea of them being totally in love and also learning how to build their lives together and getting through all of the struggles and shit that involves, and basically getting used to each other and figuring out how to share the same space.

Haha, Charles doesn't really have friends, Raven's the one who actually makes friends, so they're all like her friends that's he's kind of taken on as ... friends-in-law, or whatever. Except Moira (who is surprised by the marriage mainly because she kinda of had the impression Charles was trying to get into her pants.)

And Erik totally knew Charles was well off, obviously, but like ... didn't realize how filthy stinking rich he was.

God, I just love the idea of them being totally in love and also learning how to build their lives together and getting through all of the struggles and shit that involves, and basically getting used to each other and figuring out how to share the same space.

WHY NOT, INDEED.

Why do I never come home from vacation with an Erik in my carry-on luggage? So unfair.

AMAAAZZZINNNGGG. I can so see modern AU Charles just, like, getting ~married~ absolutely immediately. IT'S TRUE LOVE, OKAY.

and I love Erik being far more reserved about it, while still so obviously into it that it is almost creepy.

CHARLES LIKED IT SO HE PUT A RING ON IT. HE THOUGHT IT THROUGH, IT MAKES TOTAL SENSE.

Oh man, I love Erik riding that line of almost creepy. He wouldn't do obvious PDA, but he does do weird stuff like comes up while Charles while he's talking with people and puts his hand on his neck and Charles just smiles at him and doesn't even stop talking. Erik lives at that hilarious crossroads of "obsessively in love" and "it's no one's fucking business >:("
