I hate Daylights Savings Time. It steals my hours and saps my soul.

I promised [livejournal.com profile] dammitcarl I would write and be productive yesterday, and what came out were weird girl!clark snippets.

*****

Clark set the crate of produce down on the kitchen counter and looked around the room. Lex came down to visit, sometimes, during the deliveries, but when he was busy he usually left a note. Clark didn't see one today.

There was a pitcher of lemonade out, though, and Clark poured himself a glass to drink before he went back home.

He choked on a large swallow as he heard Lex's icy voice behind him.

"Who are you?" The 'What the hell are you doing in my house?' was implied.

Clark turned around, coughing, and wiped his hands off on his cut-offs. "Um," he said. "Hi."

Lex stood in the doorway, leaning against the frame, arms crossed in front of his body. He looked down Clark's body with a slow gaze, and then back up to his eyes. Clark fought the urge to cross his arms in front of his breasts, and at the same time, the faint wish that they'd be a little more impressive. Like Clark's barely-B cup was worth a second glance, considering the sort of girls Lex hanged out with.

"Can I help you?" Lex said, in the same cool tone, distracting Clark back from his stupidity.

Clark had never heard Lex talk to *him* like that. Not while he was in control of his mind, at least.

"No, I was just-- I just dropped off the deliveries. From my-- the Kents. I was about to go." He put down the glass of lemonade on the counter. He'd spilt some on the floor, and he started to go get a sponge, but he remembered that he shouldn't know where they were.

"Again, may I ask who exactly you would be?"

Clark swallowed. "Sorry. I'm Claire -- Clark's cousin. I'm visiting from the summer, and Clark's staying with my dad in North Dakota while he's sick?" Clark was pretty sure his voice hadn't done that rising intonation thing when he was a boy.

An expression flashed in Lex's eyes for a second. "Clark's sick?"

"Oh! No. Um. My dad."

He really should be better at this, Clark thought.

"I see," Lex said, frowning. "Well, it was nice to meet you, Claire." Lex really didn't sound very sincere for the last part. At all. "Give my regards to Mr. and Mrs. Kent."

Clark stood still, feeling awkward, as Lex pushed himself upright.

"He wrote you a letter," Clark said suddenly, and Lex stopped still, midway through his turn away to leave. "Before he left. I didn't bring it with me today, but I will next time."

Lex paused before answering. "That's fine. You can bring that straight up to me," he said, and then he left.

Clark walked back out to the truck, frowning. He climbed into the cab, and started to go for the ignition, but stopped himself, instead resting his head back against the seat and looking the few inches up to the ceiling. It was farther away now than it was before.

"This really *sucks*," Clark said loudly.

The word sounded more natural in Claire's voice than it did in his.

Omg! You so gotta continue with this universe. I need to know what happened to make Clark into Claire. Will Lex find out? Does Clark's parents know? Please, I need more.

The first random snippet is here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/pearl_o/179671.html#cutid1), and might be a little more clear. Though, yes, there's still not very much yet.

Well, it still doesn't explain what happened, but at least I know that his/her parents know. More please.

Hee, hee! I'm enjoying this. *g* I have a question though. Why wouldn't Claire stay and take care of her *own* father?

Hmmm. That is a good point; I shall think over more exactly how I want their cover story to function.

I am glad you're enjoying, though.

I shall think over more exactly how I want their cover story to function.

I already thought of 2:

1. Claire's Dad normally does a lot of very heavy physical labor on his farm, which he can't do while he's sick. Claire can take care of Clark's chores adequately while Clark does Claire's *and* her Dad's.

2. Claire's Dad is sick with something that requires personal care of the genitals.

You pick: serious, or ribaldly funny.

*nod* Another thing crossing my mind was perhaps maybe Claire had been taking care of him herself for awhile, and the Kents had invited her to stay with them for a bit, because they thought she needed a break. That kind of thing.

*pokes* write more. I like this. I especially liked how Lex was all disappointed that Clark wasn't there. And got all worried about Clark being sick. It was very cute.

So. Much. Fun.

I think

So. Much. Fun.

I think <ljuser="mecurtin">'s explanation #1 is perfectly good, and certainly outshines most Smallville Logic. (The other one I thought of -- yes, this snippet has given me a full-fledged girl!Clark fantasy -- was that Claire is fighting with her parents and needed to get away, and Clark went to ND so that Claire's folks could continue to run *their* farm, the pretense being that Clark does normal human chores that a girl could also pretty much do and v. versa. Even better if "Clark" calls Lex from N.D. -- it's not as if he couldn't run there to make sure the area code's right -- and explains that one reason they switched places is that Claire is fighting with her parents because she thinks she might be a lesbian, which would defuse a lot of Lex's anxiety about hanging out with Claire even before he figures it out. Okay, yes, I do have a whole story here, but after Switch I'm not gonna write it.)

Dude. You make *me* all excited and giddy over it with your comments.

Heh. I may steal some of your ideas shamelessly, because you're giving me all sorts of directions to go with.

but, yes, yay! I'm glad you're enjoying.

Oh, please please do. That way I can be one of those people who says, "Wouldn't it be great if you'd write a story that conforms to my fantasy but I'm too lazy to write on my own? Wouldn't it?" I got a million of 'em, folks.

In my version, there's a scene in which Clark overhears Martha and Jonathan talking about a visit Martha paid to Lex in re: his dirty old man relationship to Claire, where he told her "You can't tell me anything I don't already know." And Jon-Boy is all, "What the hell does *that* mean?" and Martha says, "Well, I wasn't going to *ask* him -- then he'd know there was something going on." But your first fragment suggests that your story goes differently, and I'm looking forward to yours.

Jumping up and down for more! Please, please, please! Wow!

I love Lex's iciness here. Love that Clark will be forced to see how much he means to Lex, in that Lex doesn't warm to others immediately the way he warmed to Clark. It's a wonderfully telling detail to include in this snippet.

I'm hooked. : )

Awww, thank you so much! I'm glad you liked.

It's being so mean to Clark here -- the girl thing is enough stress on its own, but he's an outsider now, too. Yes.

I do so love the thought of girl!Clark and Lex interacting -- Lex caught between an attraction that won't get him shot ("hey! she's like Clark! but a girl!") and knowing that Clark wouldn't understand or forgive Lex seducing his cousin, and Clark missing the ease of his normal relationship with Lex but also finding this new boy/girl tension very compelling for some reason....

Ah, that is a long and sad tale, I'm afraid. Or, not really so long. Just sad. Right after I wrote these snippets -- the end of Season 2ish -- is when I suddenly got my big huge smallville block, and stopped writing anything in the fandom till, like, October, and by that time the *way* I wrote the characters was really different, and I couldn't really do the fun weird stuff like this anymore. I tried to write more of this, but it was ugly and forced, so. I don't remember if I posted the third of these snippets on lj, or just journalfen, though. There was two hundred words or so of porn set up somewhere.

Argh! Guilt! Shame! Shame and guilt!

Um. I *did* mean to write more. I tried! It's just ... *flails vaguely* Suddenly I couldn't write SV anymore! And then six months later, I could, but the characters were suddenly so very different in my head that they didn't want to do the fun stuff anymore.

So, yes. Blame Clark and Lex! Bastards.
