things I look at

My new computer is still sleek and pretty and lovable. Yay.

When was that "look at my desktop!" thing going on? Six months ago? I feel like doing that again, though I have no idea why. So! Here is my mine, as of about ten minutes ago.

Things to note: the pretty wallpaper by thete1; the cameo chat appearances by lyra_sena, estrella30, and fox1013; the text files containing my obsessive lists, in this case "books I need to read" and "items I really need to remember to buy"; all the free internet games that I used up my trial time on with the old computer, but can now do again; The Sims 2, which I will probably uninstall soon, as I left the game in Oregon so I didn't get distracted from school.

First day of classes went well -- but then, I'm very fond of syllabuses in general.

Doing some of the reading for next seminar this evening, I discovered I am apparently madly in love with one of our books -- Medieval Russia: a Sourcebook, 850-1700 -- because oh my *god*, coolest thing ever. Primary Chronicle, wheee!

In the little introductory lecture in class today, every time we mentioned the steppe I thought of barbarian_qulan and every time we mentioned Central Asian bits of the former empire I thought of linabean. I wonder if that will continue through the quarter.

Tomorrow: first day of language portion, yay! With a crazy new alphabet to learn, hmm.
