random ds recs
27/10/04 11:17Last night there was comfort reading happening, and I remembered just how, how very much I love some stories.
Today's themed set of recs: Five F/K stories I adore and have read so often I practically have them memorized, and none of which are NC-17 (because there *is* more to life than porn, yo). [That's not a very catchy category, is it? Hmm.]
I don't have any comments here, but that's basically because I have nothing more intelligent to say about any of them but "LOVE LOVE LOVE."
1. Mangy Dog by Speranza (this is the comfort reading that set this off last night, and on reflection, probably right up there with Passion as my very favorite of Speranza's dS stories)
2. Bugs and Thorns by Basingstoke
3. The latest party by torch
4. Shopping for Mayhem in Aisle Four by shrift
5. lean by Pares
Originally I was going to have six, because I was going to also put Heavy Bag here -- because god knows I don't rec that enough -- but apparently I was remembering the rating wrong there, and it is NC-17 and not R. Oh, I am dorky.

lyrics of INSPIRATION
27/10/04 12:02Copying another meme from
musesfool. According to her:
I list a bunch of (hopefully inspirational) song lyrics. You write drabbles or ficlets inspired by them in the comments. You post this in your LJ, and I try to do the same for you. Fun ensues. *g*
I haven't done this on either hers nor
callmesandy's where I've seen it, but I blame that a little on the fact that I can't write anything but dS lately. But I like *reading* anything, so if any of you want to play ( there are lyrics behind the cut tag )
The best thing about the day after a shopping trip is the refreshed soda supply. Mmmm, Coke.

Oh, mail, I love you for making it worthwhile to leave my room on a day when I don't have classes.
First, there was an envelope from my parents -- nothing exciting, but they sent along my bank statement and my U of O letter, but stamps! Stamps are good, since I can now send afrai's letter, my housing application, and also Keep Democracy Alive and Let My Voice Be Heard. (Um, how much postage do I need for a letter to England, anyway?)
And then! Two different packages from Amazon! The first was the splurge I kind of regretted as soon as I did it, but man, if I was going to spend unneccessary money, this is some nice stuff. $15 dollar Buffy DVDs! The new Discworld novel! And also this book, about which I know nothing except it looked vaguely fascinating and it was on sale for really very cheap. So, uh, hopefully it is good.
And then! Package number two! My darlingest
lynnmonster bought me a book! For no reason at all! *hugs Kelly Link stories close to chest*
Um, I shall go off and read for a bit now. Yay books!

things i will never forget
27/10/04 17:09I realize I end up telling this to everybody I chat with if you talk to me long enough, but this afternoon it turned out I'd never mentioned it to
liviapenn before, so I thought I might as well share it with all of you.
The Number One Absolute Best Typo I Have Ever EVER Read in My History of Reading Fanfiction, Oh My God:
Okay, to the set the scene, it is, if I remember correctly, a due South Fraser/Kowalski story. We're in the middle of a blowjob scene from the POV of the guy doing the blowing. The guy getting done is very close to coming, and then, finally, the guy on his knees suddenly has in his mouth--
"a burst of warm saltines."
I love that so much it HURTS MY BRAIN.
That is, yes, still what Fraser is thinking in that mood icon. I don't think that icon can mean anything else anymore, sadly.
