schmerica: (fraser window)
Dira and I may have just spent twenty minutes plotting out never-to-be-written-scenarios about Victoria's Secret AUs where Fraser becomes a parapalegic. It may have been weirdly detailed, and included both vaguely F/V-ish and F/K-ish elements. But you can't prove anything.

[[livejournal.com profile] dsudis: ...this is another one of those reasons we shouldn't be allowed to talk unsupervised, isn't it?
[livejournal.com profile] pearl_o: *giggles*
[livejournal.com profile] pearl_o: Um, possibly?]

On a similar note, when left to my own devices, I seem to resort to turning every single song on my iTunes mix into a due South bunny. This is fine for the happy-go-lucky ones, I suppose, but has its disturbing elements for some of the other.

But, whatever. Tell me Sarah McLachlan's "Hold On" isn't the perfect song for a really depressing post-CotW Fraser POV story about him and Ray up in Canada while Ray dies slowly of cancer or a similarly fatal disease!

(When I shared that thought with Dira, I used three exclamation points. I'm gonna go lie down for a bit.)

Franz Ferdinand doesn't sound even VAGUELY appropriate for Fraser or Ray, brain! YOU ARE CLUTCHING AT STRAWS. Stop listening to "Come On Home" and thinking of Ray in Chicago post-CotW while Fraser's still in Canada!

People. Please help me. Am I not to be allowed to listen to music at all anymore? This is SAD.

*sigh*

Yousendit link so you can see how much it doesn't work (note: m4a, not mp3 format), plus lyrics behind the cut tag )

I'm going to go do linguistics homework now. There is nothing in minimal pairs to make me think of F/K, at least. Unless there was some kind of linguist!AU--

*cough*

Another note on my Frannie entry from the other day: one of the things that was in my head just before I wrote that the other day was seeing [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza mentioning in some comment thread that she was thinking of working on a Frannie/RayK story this summer. And seeing that (besides, you know, provoking squee in me) also made me think of a conversation someone was having some time ago (last year? on #discourse? I have no memory) about Frannie/RayK as a ship, and the things that can be behind it, to support it; that is, all the thing they really have in common.

And so, okay, going back to my Frannie entry -- I think part of what I talked about there is one of those things they have in common. I think both of them do carry around that sense, all the time -- they're less smart, less educated, lower status, that sense of want, etc, etc, etc -- and a lot of the stuff they do is almost a direct response to that. It's just that the way they deal with it that's completely different. Where Frannie's working at it, working her ass off to more or less prove herself, Ray's response is closer to "Fuck you." The abrasiveness, the pretence of not caring, the dismissal of all that sort of stuff -- basically, the other choice of how to react to feeling inferior. (Which [livejournal.com profile] stumbledhere and I touched on a little bit in her comments last week, talking about his anti-intellectual bias, but not much, because we were more concerned with Ray smoking weed and getting beat up in bars.)
