Having all these screenings in the lovely metropolis that I live on the outskirts of does me no good when you schedule them all while I'm still at fucking school in the middle of the fucking grass seed capital of the fucking world. BAH. June 11th is not that far away, people!

(Please note, I am in no condition to feel joy for those of you who are seeing it, but I don't really feel like bonding with the rest of you who won't see it, either.)

(Note 2: technically, I think I'm actually rather south of the grass seed capital of the world, but whatever. You get the point!)

Things I Appreciate And/Or Miss About My Time in Smallville Fandom

1. My experience in this is apparently contrary to, like, most people you hear talk about it, but Smallville was an *awesome* place for me to be a newbie. It was welcoming and coddling -- shut up, I'm serious! There were lots of smart people and high quality stuff, too, and that first year of fandom was totally me sucking in new stuff all the time and learning how to constantly improve and refine my stuff and figure out fandom.

2. I enjoyed being in a closed canon like due South a lot -- you're sort of reshuffling the facts over and over, seeing what you can find that's still new, still worth saying -- but being in a brand new fandom with ever-growing-and-expanding canon was fascinating in its own way, watching everything change, reorganizing it to account for everything, making sense of everything anew as things change.

3. The badfic was exquisite. Seriously. *sighs nostalgically* dS, you have some sucky things I make everybody read, but non-alien-lifeform fandoms really are missing out on so very much.

4. All night chats with [livejournal.com profile] dammitcarl and [livejournal.com profile] valisme and [livejournal.com profile] buggery. Jack is off in comics fandom now, and val and jess have drifted off into non-internet-y pastures. Sigh. Fannish drift is sad.

5. The art was amazing. So very many crazy talented artists. Cover art, wallpapers, all sorts of completely amazing stuff. If due South had more of this, I would die happy on a regular basis.

It's past midnight in Massachusetts, which means it's officially the birthday of the adorable, fantabulous, aweosme [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl! YAY!

In honor of the occasion, I present the story that required more handholding for me than any other story I have ever written ever. I did, in fact, need five people to look over this 10k of story for me before I felt confident in posting. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] estrella30 and [livejournal.com profile] lyra_sena for first readthroughs, and to [livejournal.com profile] shayheyred, [livejournal.com profile] nestra and [livejournal.com profile] makesmewannadie for beta.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRACEY!
