schmerica: (ds: confused puppy)
I mentioned this the other day in a reply to one of [livejournal.com profile] katallison's comments, and then again today while talking to [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl -- seriously, I think some of the very most endearing Fraser moments ever in the series are ones dealing with his total inability to lie.

There's a certain pattern.

1. Fraser needs to lie.
2. Fraser lies, making up something completely ridiculous and not even remotely believable.
3. The person being lied to stares at him, not taken in at all, and says something along the lines of "Is that true?" or "You're making that up"
4. Fraser breaks down INSTANTLY and admits his untruthful ways.

For examples of the utter cuteness of these exchanges, I invite you to see "Pizzas and Promises", "We are the Eggmen" and "Mountie on the Bounty, part 1."

LA SOEUR: You know who I love?

ME: Who?

LA SOEUR: Ian McKellen.

ME: Everybody loves Ian McKellen.

LA SOEUR: Well, yes, but I actually meant to say Don McKellar and Ian McKellen came out instead.

ME: I like both of them!

LA SOEUR: I know you do!

ME: I actually have a little crush on Don McKellar.

LA SOEUR: I actually have a lotta crush on Don McKellar.

ME: Dude, he's totally cute, you know? He's attractive in that really really quirky way.

LA SOEUR: I was totally waiting for you to use the word "quirky".

ME: Really?

LA SOEUR: If you hadn't have said "quirky," I would have had to say it myself.

ME: Hee. Quirky.
