My computer seems to have gone screwy. It'll work for a few hours at a time, and suddenly we can't even restart it without it freezing halfway through.

I think it must know my dad went out of town on Sunday, and thus be taking this excuse to slack off.

At any rate, I'm here now, but I might be in and out for the next little while.

Is it Windows? Back everything up, and run checkdisk at the DOS prompt. Good luck!

First off, I was wrong, it's scandisk, not checkdisk. Second, check here (http://www.computerhope.com/software/scandisk.htm) to see how to run it on your OS.

And I meant what I said about backing up first! It will truncate damaged files. My friend the Serious Geek always saves the backups it makes of those truncations too, just in case, but backup first if you can.

Heh. Our computer runs that whenever Windows starts up after not being shut down properly; that where it's been freezing up half the time when we restart.

*tries anyway*

Windows does do a basic file consistency check when it starts up after a crash, but this is more in-depth. Good luck!
