There is a lot of fiction posted that I do not like. Some of this I ignore. Some of this I read and forget. Some of this I read and talk over in minute detail with my friends in chat.

Yes, I, in fact, Talk Smack About People Behind Their Backs. I will pause now to allow for your gasps of shock and horror.

*pauses*

I enjoy all of these things. Talking about badfic with my friends is something fun for me -- so when you talk about ignoring the stuff that bugs you and focusing on the goodness ... well. Your goodness isn't everybody's, you know?

I do not think it's wrong of me to do; I don't see how it hurts anybody. On the other hand, if I were to come up to a person whom I've had relatively friendly contact with up to now and tell them that I hate their writing or that their stories suck -- that would be hurtful, rude, and pointless, really, since it isn't even constructive.

I don't talk smack about my friends' work; I don't think I could be friends with someone I thought sucked (oh, wait, is that elitist of me? I have such trouble keeping track). I won't lie and say I don't talk smack about individual people, but that's relatively rare, and always about people who have deliberately provoked, insulted or hurt me, my friends, or people I respect. I don't do it about my friends or really any people who seem sane; there's a difference between story bashing and people bashing, and there's a line there.

I am astonished at the amount of drama that has been created over an entry that, as far as I've heard, a single person besides the authors has read. [Edited to add: This is apparently untrue -- I've been told at least two others read the same thing. So there you go.]

So. I don't like everything or everyone. I mock and rip apart stories I don't like. I am, in fact, a Giant Bitch-Monster, so go ahead and take that into account in what you think about me.

If you want to go and roll your eyes or bitch about this entry with your friends, really, I don't mind that either.

The first time I read this comment I thought so-and-so and what's-her-face were code names for actual stuff, rather than just you demonstrating your love for well-formed possessives. Obviously, I am very silly.
