So last night I watched Scrooged with the father and grandfather (the Hallmark Channel being one of the few random channels left to us, for some bizarre reason). I was mainly watching it because my mother apparently really likes it, and said it was funny and worth watching -- which it was, I think -- so I was pleased and taken aback by the John Glover and Karen Allen spottings. The John Glover one took me by surprise, actually, because I am a dork and had to stare at him suspiciously for several minutes before I could figure out if it really *was* "Lex's dad from Smallville", as I explained to my family members around.

But Karen Allen! Oh! I only know Karen Allen from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Animal House -- I don't even know if she was in any other movies, if she's even still alive, what she looks like now, anything but that it was the same actress in both -- but based on this data I had gained a MASSIVE girlcrush. Like, I sat up straight and pointed at the tv. Her characters are so smart and pretty and spunky and and and! I don't know if that's the kind of girl I would want to go out with if I ever went out with a girl, or just the kind of girl I would want to be. Anyway.

On a random note, I have started keeping careful notes of my fanfiction reading, which I think will serve me well. It will remind me to send feedback, plus, I can always look back on December 5th, 2003 and think, "Ah, yes. That was the day I read the two mediocre Smallville stories, the sweet comic book story, the yummy Wes/Gunn, and the sentient bear-fucking."

I didn't recognize John Glover at all. I saw his name in the credits and had to rewind to check. (With my mum and brother going "he's the guy from California. Chase, he's the guy from California." I had to be sure. And then I had to giggle. )

The cleancut face was hard to recognize (the hair! where did it go?), but the voice was pretty piercing.

Oooh, Karen Allen. She was in an episode of Law and Order: SVU, I don't think it was that long ago... IMO, she still looks great. :)

Aww, see, that's nice to know. In a kind of 'doesn't really matter, but still warm and fuzzy' way.

hey!

I think I liked that sentient bear fucking story! Was it Jane's Remus story or the Iorek/Lee? Because if I could remember the titles of either of the ones i read, I dug them both.

Well, today it was Jane's Remus story, but I have also read the Iorek/Lee one! It was very good, if I remember correctly. Was that Mary Borsellino's? I can't remember now.

But, yes. Now that I think about it, I don't know if I've read any His Dark Materials fic *without* sentient bear fucking.

Mmm, sentient bear slash (http://muse.inkstigmata.net/hdm/northernlights.html).

I was surprised -- not having read the books -- to discover nearly at the end of the story that Iorek is a polar-type bear. And, um... I suspect that part of the reason I was picturing the black bear/grizzly model is my own tendency to go for the brunettes...

What was the sweet comic book story?

Oh, I wouldn't have even thought to clarify that for you. Other kinds of bears? What?

Ah, yes. Jane wrote some nice Authority slash; most of what's out there. She's been thoroughly Jossed with some of her fanon, but the stories still make for a nice read.

I think I've only read Authority fic by her and Basingstoke.
