Ficlet #4

Um. It occurs to me that my snippets have had sort of a *theme* lately. It's up to the reader, of course, to determine if my own mental and physical state has any bearing on this.

Ray woke to small noises and the feeling of a sudden emptiness beside him. He reached his hand out to the other side of the bed, groping blindly. "Fraser?" he said, his voice still groggy with sleep.

"Don't get up," Fraser said, and Ray's eyes adjusted to the slightly-less-black blur in the darkness of his bedroom. "I need to head back to the consulate. You should sleep."

"Mmmph," Ray said intelligently, and he rolled over to turn on the lamp on his nightstand.

Fraser had laid the uniform across the bed, and was looking down at it. He glanced over at Ray for a second, and then reached for his clothes.

"Wait," Ray said. He sat up, pushing the mess of covers out of the way. "Let me see. I wanna watch."

"All right," Fraser said in a soft voice.

Tunic, goofy pants, leather and string and all sorts of weirdness. Ray watched sleepily and said "What's that for?" and "That goes *where*?" and "That's kind of neat" and Fraser had half a smile on his face by the time he sat down on the edge of the bed to lace up his boots.

Ray couldn't help staring at that, the smooth length of leather hugging Fraser's calves. "Kinky," he said, and Fraser snorted for real.

But then Fraser stood up again, and Ray had to blink a few times, because -- poof! The mussed naked open guy in Ray's bed was gone, and there was a Mountie standing in the middle of his room.

"Say something sarcastic," said Ray.

"What?"

"Or snotty. That'll work, too."

Fraser just stared at him, and Ray shook his head. "Never mind," he said. "Go." He shooed Fraser with one hand and fell back heavily onto the bed.

"I'll see you later, Ray," Fraser called from the doorway.

Ray squinted a little in Fraser's direction and then -- hey, he could see both guys, there at once. Fraser One and Fraser Two; that was a pretty cool trick, Ray thought, and then he fell back asleep.
