The new pilot caught her on the stairs of the cargo bay.
"Just who I wanted to see," he cried, grinning widely.
"I'm busy, Wash," Zoe said. She moved around him.
"It's just that I think we got off on the wrong foot," Wash said, trailing behind her.
Zoe stopped short, raising her eyes to the ceiling, and then turned to look at him. "Listen to me. I don't *like* you."
"That's what I mean!" Wash said without missing a beat. "I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, but I'm a pretty likeable guy. I'm known for it, in fact. Ask around the galaxy, I swear."
Zoe wasn't sure *why* she was still standing there, but she was. She crossed her arms across her chest. "What do you want?"
"We're landing on Persephone in the mroning. Let me take you out." Wash grinned at her again, his arms open in a pleading gesture -- and God help her, this time, he was almost charming.
"Fine," Zoe said, despite herself. "On two conditions. First, you had better make sure you're taking me some place *nice*. And second--" She made a small gesture towards his face. "Do something about the facial hair."
Wash brought his hand up to stroke at his mustache. "You don't like it?"
"No."
"I thought it gave me a sort of roguish charm."
"No."
Wash nodded sadly. "All right. Your conditions are accepted. Tomorrow, my lady."
"Goodbye, pilot," Zoe said, and she turned around and stomped up the stairs.
