Okay, so I figured out how to do stuff in Russian. Go me! Therefore, you get a completely nonsensical and pointless entry in Russian. I would have said more, but I couldn't really think of anything interesting to say with the numbers, school supplies and clothing that the rest of my vocab consists of.

Also, I'm pretty sure this has a bunch of stupid mistakes in it, because why wouldn't it, really?

Привет! Меня зовут Эрика. Я живу в штате Вашингтон. я студентка.

Как у вас дела? Вы студент? Вы аспирант? Где вы работаете? Где вы живёте? Вы читаете "slash"?

Что вы делаете?

Oh, random note: the reason как never made me giggle is that I say it as "kahk" and cock as "kawk." It's a very, very subtle pronunciation difference, but enough that I never connected the words as sounding similar in my head. "Cock вас зовут?" would definitely sound wrong to me, and different from "как вас зовут?"

So it just didn't occur to me to giggle, really.

See, I think my (American/English) accent is such that I don't pronounce a different between those two sounds -- I know a lot of people you have, say, a different between "cot" and "caught" (one with "a" in the phonetic alphabet, one with the backwards c), but I pretty much don't. I don't actually hear the difference between the two sounds most of the time, actually, unless I'm specifically listening for it.

I don't distinguish between cot/caught, but yeah, it's probably a matter of slightly different accents (that and I was trained young to languages that ONLY have a pure 'ah' sound, so I default to that for foreign words -- which is crippling in Arabic).

I need to learn the phonetic alphabet....
