So, yes. I just bought my first song from iTunes music store ever. This song would, of course, be David Allan Coe's "You Never Even Called Me By My Name." Naturally.

...Oh, shut up. It's the perfect country and western song, you know!

This is possibly what comes of spending all the hours of the ride back to school alone in an enclosed space with my father. *cough*

Things brought back to school with me that I didn't have with me before: a plate of Christmas cookies for [livejournal.com profile] sprkid; pretty hat and scarf for coldness; the rest of my Christmas cards to mail out; Buffy season three dvds; and some books I'm borrowing from my mother. The latter is due to me randomly clicking on links from amazon.com last night. Between this this essay, this one, her FAQs, and the sample chapters, I'm giving Jennifer Crusie a try. (Feel free to recommend me other romance novels, too; it's a genre I've hardly read in at all.)

Q. Do you research your sex scenes?
A. Yes, but it's a hassle because I always have to keep one hand free to take notes.

Q. Are you ever going to give up romance writing and start writing real books?
A. No. I like writing fake books. It gives such joy to those who need to feel intellectually superior.

*snickers*

Also, I have now seen the first four episodes of this seasons JoA, and the most recent two. This leaves four I didn't manage to catch up with during vacation, but there will be time next break, I guess. *sniff* And in case you were wondering, Luke and Grace are WAY up there on the list of canon het couples of my heart.

Oh, I like Jennifer Crusie. If you can get hold of it, I recommend "Getting Rid of Bradley" by her. It has buddy cops! :)

Yay, Luke and Grace!

(And, yay for "You Never Even Call Me By My Name"!)

...and I don't even *like* C&W music.

Mainstream contemporary country makes me want to gouge out my ears, but old country has a charm to it, even the lousy stuff. And, well, stuff like Johnny Cash is irresistible.

I predict you'll really enjoy Jennifer Crusie's works - they're funny, intelligent and feature downright offbeat characters and situations (and usually a dog or two). they're definitely fun reads, and they're now reissuing her older titles, so you have lots to enjoy!

I love Crusie. :) I have an article by her in a book on writing comedy, if you'd ever like to borrow it.

I've had Crusie recommended by many friends with exquisite taste that I trust. One of these days....

Have you read any of the Diana Gabaldon series? The first book is Outlander. It has a bit of a sci-fi edge to it. I think she's really good.

Actually, yes! I got through all of them last summer. I enjoyed them quite a bit.
