Accomplished tonight: outlining of my ds_seekritsanta. YAY for steps in the right directions.

Of course, then I got distracted and started poking at my site and analyzing my year in writing.

Since January 1st, 2004, I have posted 21 stories in two fandoms (four Firefly and seventeen due South). This writing has included:

+ category: m/m slash, f/f slash, het and gen
+ person: 1st person, 2nd person, and 3rd person
+ tense: present tense and past tense
+ genre: AU, non-con, kidfic, deathfic, post-apocalypse, angst, schmoop, PWP, epistolary, and various experiments in format.
+ pairings: Inara/Zoe, Inara/Kaylee, River/Mal, Fraser/Kowalski, Fraser/Victoria, Kowalski/Stella, Kowalski/Frannie, Fraser/OFC.

Conclusions reached from this:

So if 2002 was my year of Smallville, and 2003 was my year of multi-fandom whoring, then 2004 is definitely my year of due South. It's eaten my brain in the best way, and that means I've been writing a lot and that it's pretty much all in that fandom. The same thing happened in Smallville, but I think my writing in dS is more interesting in a lot of ways -- I mean, I think I'm a better writer than I was two years ago, but I also think, looking at the list above, it's clear I'm a lot more willing to explore and try new things in due South. To a certain extent, I think maybe a lot of what I was doing in Smallville was constantly refining the characters, trying over and over to find the perfect story for them. In due South, that's not what's interesting me; I love these characters, but I love them any way I see them, and I want to see them in as many ways as possible. I had one Clark and one Lex, but I have many Rays and many Frasers, and it's amazingly fun to find them, to see what I can do, how I see them, what they can take, who they are.

Also, Firefly is pretty, and is still the best background, no-pressure fandom on the side I know. Mmmm, femslash.

(dS needs more femslash. Hmm. Dear self, return to this thought in a month after you've finished seekritsanta and yuletide and Fox's birthday, okay?)

I adored your Smallville stories, y'know when I was in the Smallville fandom, but then pretty dancing sparkly boys ate my brain and then Sentinel ate my brain and then my brain got with the plan and realised the sheer hotness of RayK and Fraser and I was delighted to see you writing in due South when I finally dipped my toe into the fic. And I am adoring your due South more than I adored your Smallville. I hope you stay interested in getting Ray and Fraser nekkid and sweaty the fandom for a while yet.

Awww, thanks! I don't *think* I'll be drifting off from dS any time soon -- it's kind of shocking to me to realize how long I've been it, actually; it still feels brand new.
