Also, on the completely unrelated subject of random-ass folklore and magic realism, selkies are strange and fascinating in a way that makes me desire completely bizarre AUs.

I accept that I am probably entirely alone on this.

OMFG DUDE, I was just thinking about this. Because a story that's always, always stuck with me is one of [livejournal.com profile] brighidestone's from her Fairy Tale Series in which she mixes the Sentinel with Selkie folklore. And it is beautiful and heartbreaking and I wish someone would do something like it in dS.

Ooh, I've never read that story of Brighid's (I haven't read a lot of Sentinel, actually). Do you have a link?

Hahahaha. Oh my lord. I can just -- I can just see the AU now. Because honestly, in due South, it's just -- entirely too possible, what with Fraser being such a freak. Maybe he really is a selkie...

I want a Fraser-is-a-selkie fic. Please? I would send chocolate. Or fish, if that helped you get into the selkie-writing mood.

*nodding* And even in the not literal sense it's such a nice depressing metaphor -- Ray having Fraser here in Chicago, but Fraser-selkie wanting to go back to Canada/the sea.

It is a very good, subtle film full of quiet magic in all senses, about a girl and people who may or may not be selkies on a remote Scottish island. I highly recommend it.
