we are busy bees!
15/1/05 19:59So, during the Dark and Horrible Painful Times of LJ-downness,
fox1013 and I were bored. Very, very, very bored.
We solved this, as one does, with a Random Crossover Extravaganza!!!
We started off playing with
shrift's Random Pairing Generator here, and then moved on to adjust one with just the fandoms the two of us do. That one is here.
We had three guidelines.
1) The writing had to be at least 100 words.
2) Gen was okay, but managing a pairing was better.
3) We each had to match each other in quanitity of ficlets produced.
So far we each have completed one. (Um, it's really easy to get distracted just refreshing over and over.) We're both working on our seconds, though, so those will come along ... soon.

Pearl-o #1: Dana Whitaker/Ray Vecchio (SN/dS)
"I don't like Dana's new boyfriend."
"Somehow this news does not shock me, Casey," Dan said without looking up from his desk.
"I'm serious. I have a spooky feeling about him."
"You have a spooky feeling?" Dan said. He looked up now, catching Casey's glare through their door. Dana and her boyfriend were standing in the middle of the office, talking. Dana's hand was on his arm and they were both looking at each other and smiling.
"I have a feeling which is both bad and spooky," said Casey. He tapped his pen against his desk. The rhythm was both perfectly on beat and incredibly annoying. Dan felt this probably said everything one really needed to know about Casey.
"He's bad news," Casey continued. "Just *look* at him."
Dan looked. Then he waited. "What am I looking at?"
"Well, he's..." Casey gestured vaguely. "He's slimy. And what do we really know about him, anyway?"
"He and Dana met on the plane from Florida, he was a cop in Chicago, he went undercover to help bring down mob guys, he takes care of his mom and his two sisters, he's been divorced twice but still believes in love, his best friend is apparently a dreamy Canadian guy whom you could eat up with a spoon, he has a really nice car, and right now he's out there inviting Dana to come to Chicago to meet his mother."
Casey stared at him. "You spend too much time talking to Natalie," he said finally.
"I think you don't spend *enough*, my friend," said Dan, and he went back to work.

Fox #1: Jack Bristow/Darla (Angel/Alias)
Darla expects him to taste harder than he does. Or stringier. It had always seemed, before, that the older the people she ate, the less they tasted like life. It was that taste of death she avoided, that seemed to motivate everyone she knew to eat teenagers and twenty-somethings instead of the older people that didn't run as fast.
But he tastes like life.
"You remind me of my wife," is all that he says to her. He doesn't fight, although she can tell that beneath the older body he is liquid steel.
"What's your name?" she whispers in his ear.
"Jack Bristow," he says, and he relaxes despite the terror.
Perhaps that is what motivates her to not just feed off him, but to let him drink from her as well.

Finally, there are some of these pairings that Fox and I just REALLY REALLY want to see. So, if you manage to write at least 100 words of any of the pairings below, either Fox or I will match you and produce another random-pairing ficlet.

Lilah Morgan (Angel)/Veronica Sawyer (Heathers)
~233 words
---
Once, after a staff meeting, Lindsay had asked Lilah how she could be so cold. She hadn't answered, of course, because she was Lilah Morgan, and she was above stupid, petty question.
But if she had answered him, Lilah would have told Lindsay about Veronica, and about JD. And, most of all, about the long, sweaty nights in their cinder block dorm room.
Oh, JD was long dead by the time Lilah met Veronica Sawyer her first year of called, but he was always there, in Veronica's mind. She'd learned things from him, learned things that she never forgot. Lilah could still remember the first time she'd heard the story, laying in her narrow little bed in the dark, Veronica's husky voice lowered to a barely audible whisper. She spoke of Heathers, of bullets and dynamite, and of teenage slights never forgotten.
Lilah had learned from listening to those words. She took everything that had ever hurt her and learned to use it, the way Veronica had. Lilah learned well, and quickly.
And then, just a few months later, as Lilah laid between Veronica's spread thighs, three fingers deep inside of the other girl, she'd had her first real taste of power. She reveled in it.
She'd learned everything that Veronica had to teach, and when Lilah was done, she'd discarded the girl, moving on.
That was how she could be so cold.

16/1/05 20:10 (UTC)First thing Ray learned: you gotta run away from the pretty, smart, rich one, cuz they're perfect and perfect plus Stanley Kowalski just don't add up. So he found someone who was pretty, smart, and didn't have two Canadian pennies to rub together. They rubbed other things together and damn near froze to death. Now he's got a bushy-haired brilliant girl who grumbles about weird currency exchange rates.
He might still worry, but she has a little schoolgirl outfit and when she rides him at night and whispers that she knows magic tricks that'll make him howl, she's just right.

The first time Dawn saw him, really saw him, was by the crater that had, until approximately five minutes ago, been Sunnydale. She looked over Buffy's shoulder, still crying a little, and there he was: tall, with bright hair and a battered blue backpack slung over one shoulder. His back was to her, but she knew it was him. She wasn't even surprised he was real; she had always been sure of that, somehow.
And then he turned around and his eyes met hers. Time to move on, he said, and she heard it as if he were standing by her shoulder. She blinked tears away and looked again: the edge of the crater was empty, and Buffy's arms were so tight around her waist she was having trouble breathing.
"Buffy," she said. "I have human ribs, remember? Well, more or less."
"Oh," said Buffy. "Sorry, Dawnie." Her arms relaxed. "Well, um, where to now?"
Dawn had been dreaming of him for years. Most of her life, she supposed, except she knew those first memories were all fake. But definitely since she was fifteen or so. At first she had thought they were the usually teenage dreams, but there was never anything naughty. Sometimes she dreamed about them sitting in a field, holding hands, and flowers wilted where his shadow fell.
Now, staring out the bus window, she knew she wouldn't dream of him anymore. He'd moved on.
She felt like she'd lost something irreplacable.
